I rate Paper Doll Lina by Robyn Lucas 3 stars since it's Robyn's debut. I tried to be understanding of Lina and her predicament but found her actions/choices to be annoying. What solidified that is the dated paper doll theme throughout. She assumed a lot and didn't listen when she was told something (by Noah, her attorney, etc.). There was also an entire chapter where Lina listed every day of the week repeating her tasks for each day. And how her solution to everything is to block someone's number! Hard to believe she was 40 acting this way. Just...no.

I liked her burgeoning friendship with Noah and her BFF. I believed most of the abusive scenes and actions. I don't mind the relationship overlap but hated that she (or her kids) wasn't given time to heal.

Bahni Turpin is pretty good. There were some awkward pauses in the middle of scenes, but that may have been editing. When she voiced angry David, I occasionally flinched because she fully goes there.

Story of strength and love

A wonderful story of hope and love. More than a domestic violence story, but a story of love and watching a women use her strength. Well worth a read by any person in a relationship. A story of how relationships should work and how they should not.

Was predictable

This book had promise the character development was very good, better than most books, but the story was way to predictable.

Brave

Felt and Lived every word of this in my soul. To many time we forget ourselves for someone else or brought to believe we are nothing. This book is for everyone daring to take back themselves. love love love

I loved this book! So different, couldn’t stop listening, wondering what next? The narrator was fantastic.

So tired of the self-deprecation...

It's worst than the verbal abuse and judgement. Get a clue Lena and stop being a paper doll. No one should put up with any type of abuse. It could lead to death, leaving your kids orphans.

Abuse is deadly and shouldn't be taken lightly or strategically. One time is one too many.

Ironically implausible & realistic tale of DV

A 40 yr old woman with 2 adolescent kids tolerates escalating narcissistic abuse for nearly 2 decades, then magically meets the man of every woman's dreams and he both falls in love with her and helps kickstart her income? And when she meets Mr Wonderful she's doing pretty well emotionally. NOT happening. She's just "a little bit nervous" about herself. This is NOT realistic. What rings true is the husband's insane behavior, gaslighting, public masks, his escalating violence and the inevitable PTSD.

EXCELLENT!

I actually did not‘dislike’ anything about this book. It was a captivating storyline (had my stomach tightening at various points) and the performance was spot on. It’s rare for me to rate 5 stars across the board but this one definitely deserves it.

Wonderfully written!

I had high expectations for this novel and it did not disappoint. I found myself feeling a rainbow of emotions and glued to this book until the very end. There was just enough detail without feeling overwhelmingly triggered. Can’t wait to read whatever she publishes next.

It’s Most Definitely Fiction

I didn’t dislike the story but it’s most definitely fiction. The abuse part was very realistic because many people are going through that same thing. But going from that to a movie star was a little far fetched.
