A celebration of life

Beginning with the Great Depression, this life story contains all of the emotional rollercoaster experiences a long life can endure, deny, and finally embrace and enjoy. "What would happen if I told my story?" Oberle ponders - but finds the courage within to not only share herself, but reclaim her life and complete the puzzle it had always been.

I was so glad the audio version came out of a book I've been wanting to read but prefer to "read" in the car by listening. This memoir chronicles the decades from the early 1900s thru current times and is well organized. I'm in my 20s and was not familiar with almost any of of the events, social practices, and attitudes, even though it's all set in middle America where I have spent a lot of time... Outhouse to Penthouse brought "ancient history" into my awareness in an interesting and very personal way because of the open and honest way the author shares her life. She's one of the first feminists, yet inspired me to think about how to really be a devoted wife and mother. I imagine most readers are of her generation and will enjoy all the things they can relate to, but I wanted to post a review to say this is one memoir that anyone can enjoy if they are curious about how a little girl who wore burlap, feed sack dresses to school came to write her life story while sitting on her island penthouse balcony!
