Love this series but ....

I absolutely love this series, but this book not being narrated by John McDonough and I really don't like it being abridged .... was hard for me to get through. Looking forward to the next book.

Different narrator

I really enjoyed John McDonough's narration in the first two books. His characters really came to life. I hope Mr. McDonough returns for the remainder of the series. He is the perfect voice for Father Tim!

Good, but abridged

I am thankful that I was familiar with the story before listening b/c it was very chopped up in the abridgment. I actually enjoyed listening to Jan Karon read her own story, although I really love John McDonough's narrations. I just wish it wasn't abridged. But, in reliatening to the series, there was enough there to fill in the gaps.

Wish this was the unabridged version

Shame they only offered the abridged version or to my knowledge-will have to re-listen to my unabridged version on CDs

Only Dour Chapters!

Jan Karon is a masterful storyteller, but unfortunately in this abridged version of this particular book, the reader is left wanting.
I missed John McDunough’s narration, but more than that, I missed most of the story due to it being abridged!

Love hearing the author’s voice

I love hearing Jan Karon read this book! Her voice is as wonderful as her writing is!

But I so wish that we could buy an unabridged recording of Out to Canaan. That’s my only disappointment. I have to check out John McDonough’s excellent unabridged recording from the library in order to hear the entire book. It was previously offered on Audible and I so wish you would bring it back! I have all of the other John McDonough recordings of the Mitford books.

Heart Warming

The story is well told and brings smiles, laughter and tears! I savor every book.

Narration

Narration and book 2 and three was fantastic. Narration and book for less just OK.

Too short, but still enjoyable

I dislike abridged books. I don’t see the point of them, and no matter how carefully done, something is going to be lost. I wish there was a full length version of this audiobook, but since there wasn’t one available on Audible I decided to make do. I don’t regret it.

I did miss the original narrator, who I came to think of as the voice of Father Tim. That said, unlike some reviewers I did not find Jan Karon’s reading so terrible. I thought she did a fine job. I’d still prefer the narrator of the first few books, but Karon’s reading was very listenable.

Too short

I didn’t like the female voice for male parts. The tale was too short but was a nice story
