She was a force behind the mutual aid network that connected Black churches, domestic and blue-collar laborers, social clubs, and sororities and fraternities across the country.

Historian and cultural critic Tanisha C. Fascinating!!!

Fascinating look into a forgotten figure in the Civil Rights Movement. It's like a masterclass in fundraising, an in-depth peak into the lives of middle and upper class African-Americans, and exploration of the contributio. and complexity of the women of the movement.

Not What I Expected, In a Good Wsy

When I purchased this book I expected the author to sugar coat the finding of the Civil Rights Movement and to be far more vague than she was. She did not and I applaud her for an honest retelling of history so that we don’t repeat it.

The depth and honesty of this untold story provides a rich and more holistic story of how a movement comes together and particularly the role that women of color play in the discourse of American society; well researched and well written!

Inside Pool --Behind the Struggle

Mostly liked the interwoven personal stories & insight as the times called for shifting strategies. Less credible were the prolonged feminist descriptions towards the end. While they may be true , insufficient data re the lawsuit was provided regarding Molly's interior thoughts.

Excellent Insight into a Fascinating Woman Leader and Her World

I was a longtime member of the Urban League and didn’t know anything about Mollie Moon which truly saddens me. I’m grateful to the author and love this book because it introduced me to Mollie but also because it makes clear that the issues surrounding the social justice movement today aren’t new and the misogynoir, blanket vilification of the African American “elite”, fear of co-option of the movement and concerns about the limits of allyship have always been prevalent. The book also shows how Mollie and her peers successfully exercised their power during a time when - as we’d been erroneously taught - African Americans had no power and solely relied on the good will of good White ally’s in order to progress. This was empowering!

The author does take slightly more creative license in specific incidents than is believable but, overall, this is superbly executed and truly entertaining and I can’t wait to share this with family and friends.

A Beautiful Well Written History of Mollie Moon.

I would have never known Mollie Moon had I never read this book. However, as an educated business woman, engaged community member, and local executive I have never felt more seen than in the story of Mollie Moon. So many other names I’ve heard, or have drove past a building or walked the halls of a school that adorn the names of many men from this book. Yet, for decades women did the, lead the work, and funded the work of our communities but are only known in history books as Mrs “insert names of their husbands”. This book is brilliant, it should be celebrated and it should serve as a guide to be inclusive of black women. I’m grateful that Tanisha Ford stumbled upon Mollie Moon and decided to tell her story. One that will be recognizable to women and black women everywhere. A must read.
