Resumen del Editor

This young listeners' edition of Christina Baker Kline's New York Times best-selling novel Orphan Train follows a young foster girl who forms an unlikely bond with a 91-year-old woman. Adapted and condensed for a young audience, Orphan Train Girl includes an author's note.

Molly Ayer has been in foster care since she was eight years old. Most of the time, Molly knows it's her attitude that's the problem, but after being shipped from one family to another, she's had her fair share of adults treating her like an inconvenience. So when Molly's forced to help an elderly woman clean out her attic for community service, Molly is wary. Just another adult to treat her like a troublemaker.

But from the very moment they meet, Molly realizes that Vivian, a well-off 91-year-old, isn't like any of the adults she's encountered before. Vivian asks Molly questions about her life and actually listens when Molly responds. Molly soon sees they have more in common than she thought. Vivian was once an orphan, too - an Irish immigrant to New York City who was put on a train to the Midwest with hundreds of other children - and she can understand, better than anyone else, the emotional binds that have been making Molly's life so hard. Together, they not only clear boxes of past mementos from Vivian's attic, but forge a path of friendship, forgiveness, and new beginnings for their future.

Amazing account of History for all ages

As a Native American woman and a home schooling parent, I am always looking for good books to read and share with my children. A client of mine told me about this book and it is a very easy listen and read and very informative of the early 1900's. showing not only cultural differences but bring together of ages in the later 1900's and early 2000 generational gaps with history. I highly recommend this book.
Having a grandmother born in 1910, and sent for adoption in 1915, this is an amazing account of stories she told.

Amazing Adaptation

I read the original book which is my favorite book. I was excited to see this adaptation for younger readers though I'm about to go re-listen to the original after this review.

As a teacher I'm working this less familiar piece of history into a new Social Studies framework for my district. We are supposed to add a more variety of voices and I felt this represents both the voices of immigration and children while also shedding light onto the precursor for foster care. Every year I get students who are fostered or adopted so thanks to this well written piece of historical fiction those kids will get to see "their faces" in history. The ongoing issue of unwanted children or those with parents unable to care for them is one that will never go away.

I wish we could do a book study with students on this. But one thing at a time.

My only critique is that the book had an ending. I was so wrapped up in every word I wanted it to continue. I'm off to go re-listen to the original for that reason.

Enjoyable.

I cared about the 2 women featured in this book. They both experienced struggles in their own ways, but to listen to what life was like in the 1930s was something I appreciated. I even bought the book for my 13 year old daughter to put under the tree. Great book!

Awwwwwesome

I love everything about it. Usually I wouldn't like it because it moved a bit slow, but I loved it

absolutely fantastic

to call this a historic fiction doesnt give it anywhere near enough scope. I loved everything about this story, the narrator and the premise. I'm going to be looking into more by this autor and read by this narrator.

IT WAS AMAZING!

I think that this period in time is important but overlooked as it is one of the more distasteful parts of American history. This book sheds light on the ups and downs of the orphans through a wonderfully wrote story.

overall good

Engaging story at the beginning but the story becomes boring and falls flat toward the end.
