Growing up in high society, James Ferdinand never imagined that one day she'd end up working as a server. But after her authoritative father gives her the ultimatum she needs to find a quick way to support herself since she's unwilling to give up on her dreams. The answer is landing a job at Orso, a fine-dining restaurant in the heart of Marsford Bay.
Between learning to navigate the grind of restaurant life, trying not to cry in the walk-freezer, and rebuilding her life, there is only one silver lining—a line cook that seems to always make her shifts a little easier whether it be with a cheeky grin or a delicious mid-shift snack.
Ozzy McKenna, the tattooed jester with a Casanova reputation, is immediately smitten and makes it his mission to charm the new girl. But James isn't ready for anything serious, having just broken up with her abusive long-term boyfriend.
Their attraction, however, is undeniable. James proposes they become friends with benefits; making a deal to hide their arrangement from their coworkers at Orso.
However, despite their best efforts to keep it casual, things inevitably begin to change.
All they need to do is get out of their own way.
Contains mature themes.

We’ve got James—wealthy socialite turned black sheep, who said “no thanks” to trust funds and high society, and “yes please” to carving out her own creative path. After breaking away from her controlling family (and her even more controlling ex), she finds herself waiting tables at a high-end restaurant, which—surprise!—comes with an unexpectedly mouthwatering perk: Ozzy, the tattooed, brooding line chef with a heart of gold and a chip on his shoulder the size of a cast iron skillet.
Ozzy is everything. He’s the gruff-on-the-outside, soft-on-the-inside hero who actually communicates (I KNOW). He not only helps James rediscover her worth but also supports her as she explores her sexuality in a safe, open, and emotionally validating way. 🥵 Let’s just say the spice in this kitchen doesn’t stop at the food…
What I loved most? These two didn’t let their vastly different upbringings get in the way. James doesn’t run when Ozzy’s past gets heavy. And Ozzy doesn’t let James’ fancy upbringing make him feel less-than. They love hard, fight for each other, and build the kind of support system we all dream about—complete with chaotic restaurant coworkers that feel like a second family.
It’s quick, it’s sexy, it’s heartfelt. It might even make you sweat a little (okay, a lot). Naomi Loud? You’re officially on my auto-read list.

Tropes:
Workplace Romance (with major The Bear energy)
Disowned Rich Girl / Poor Boy
He Falls First (and hard)
Curvy, insecure FMC
Emotional healing through food and smex (yes, in that order)
Content Warnings:
Drugs use, Gaslighting, emotional abuse, rape (off-page but impactful), panic attacks, and toxic family dynamics
This was a reading I never know I needed.
The story is not just spicy (because it clearly is) — it’s deeply emotional, sometimes uncomfortable, and often romantic (“I am telling you I love you with food” level of romance).
Ozzy is the sweetest yet a broken guy that you didn’t know you wanted. Trust me.
Totally underrated story which deserves so much!
