He also warns against underestimating the value of individual skill and effort―under the guise of “getting out of the Lord’s way”―and empowers Christians with practical, biblical steps to proactively engage unreached groups.

Balanced and Helpful

This book has many perspectives on missions that help balance the idea in the protestant church. Over the years a lot of misconceptions have crept into missions. The author does a fair job of presenting an objective view that can reshape missions strategies, prioritize goals, and encourage healthy decisions.

I would recommend this book to a person who it thinking deeply about committing to a life of missions work.

Evenhanded and encouraging

The author does an excellent job at laying out a clear defense of missions from scripture. He also carefully quotes the authors and theologians that need to adjust their teachings to be more in line with those scriptures. He also takes care to consider consequences of these modern perspectives on missions, in addition to being encouraged by this book and the author set a very good example of how to approach conflict by treating your opponents with respect

An excellent description of a Biblical approach to missions as described in the book of Acts and throughout the New Testament. Highly recommended.

Several quotes from the book church, planting movements were taken out of context

There was so much in this book that resonated with me, especially the emphasis on eldership when many movement practitioners don't emphasize it enough. But I also felt like the author took several quotes from the book Church Planting Movements out of their context. I would have liked to have seen him define "professionalism" correctly, as "one who is paid", rather than not defining it at all. While I agree that non-resident missionaries are not the ideal, many families are trying to make the best of each's unique circumstances. We thank God for modern air travel, internet access among most unreached peoples, and the proliferation of English speakers around the world that allow non-resident missionaries like myself to have a significant role in the fulfillment of the Great Commission.
