Robber barons and the perils of time travel

The tone reminded me of Roald Dahl stories and that’s a good thing. It was witty and whimsical, with a light mystery amid some deeper themes of loss, poverty, the ability to embrace the possibility of magic, and the maturity to accept the necessity of time proceeding as it should.
