Kelsey dreams of a life filled with creativity.
She's about to stumble into far more than she imagined...

Kelsey Willoughby doesn’t have time to pursue her dream of writing a novel. Imagination doesn’t pay the bills, and she’s busy saving her beautiful bookshop from online competition, hotel developers, and the sneaking suspicion that nobody reads anymore.

Not to mention all those voices telling her she doesn’t have talent.

But then the vacant lot of weeds next door starts to shimmer.

When Kelsey stumbles into a luminous nighttime garden party, larger than the vacant lot that holds it and filled with enigmatic guests, she suspects they hold the key to saving the bookshop, and perhaps even to her own mysterious origins.

But answers aren’t forthcoming, not until Kelsey is willing to confront her past, step into her potential, and push deeper into the unknown edges of the garden, where an unexpected journey takes her into a world of dangerous revelation.

The beginning hooked me. The middle got repetitive and I almost gave up but I’m so glad I didn’t. It inspired me to get back to my small creative pursuits. The end was a wonderful closure of her personal creative journey. The more basic problems were frustratingly not solved until the very very end. The true point of the book though is the journey of the artist and the courage it takes to risk rejection of one’s true self. The open heart it takes to give so many pieces of your self away. Then how to create no matter the circumstances.
The narrator took some getting use to but I did.

Delightful and encouraging to all creatives. I enjoyed the storyline very much but my heart and mind were captured by the garden.

Imaginative and Inspirational

I enjoyed the way this story linked the Kelsey’s problems with keeping the bookstore afloat, the mystery of who her mother might be and the party in the garden all very believable. As it unfolds the mystery deepens as she learns more about the people who attend the parties and allowed her she thinks to learn more about herself. Although I did feel at times that the story was dragged out a bit more than was needed, by the time it reached its very satisfactory end I knew every part of the story was necessary. I suspect Tracy put quite a few of her own fears about what it takes to make a “real” writer into Kelsey’s questions about her own abilities as a writer.

The marriage between reality and fantasy

Higley weaves worlds seamlessly, building suspense as she blurs the lines of reality and intermingles philosophy on creativity and life. I thoroughly enjoyed this encouraging tale and its satisfying resolution. I also experienced audio glitches with the ends of the first two chapters cutting off. After I contacted customer service, I believe they resolved the issue because that did not continue in later chapters as I finished listening to the book.

I thought Nightfall was beautifully written and a story inspiring for those us that are creators that will likely never sell their work. My only criticism is that the author’s reading was almost breathless and I had to slow the audio down- honestly I’m not sure I would have continued beyond the first chapter if I hadn’t also downloaded the book on kindle! I’m so glad I carried on - I’m still thinking of that magical garden! 💕

Inspiring for Creatives

Despite technical issues, the writing is lovely, but perhaps
the author should’ve chosen another to narrate. There’s some thing missing in the telling of the story.

Don’t love the narration

I liked the idea of the book! There were times when I would have to really focus to stay interested in what was happening but overall it was good. The focus of a garden party filled with creative individuals of the past was a cool concept.

A Good Listen

I was mesmerized by Kelsey’s journey to find beauty, courage, and love and to fight through the challenges that might stop her. I would recommend this book to those who would like to find encouragement to do the same.

Magical story

It was a listening that I had to work to make to the end. The narrator did fine job reading. Overall it was scattered. What was the purpose of going deeper and experiencing the moment in Egypt it felt just thrown. The end where it all worked out while nice uplifting was akin to the authors reference to you got mail. She meets the hotel in the middle and everyone wins. Her sculpture boyfriend was shallow not enough of his story. But on the plus side the author encapsulated everything thought about my own writing. I admire the sheer dedication to put this book out come what may. I was inspired to put some of my own ideas to paper or computer. I can give her that.

Underwhelming predictable.
