Acerca de esta escucha
From the moment Peter Mayle and his wife, Jennie, uprooted their lives in England and crossed the Channel permanently, they never looked back. Here the beloved author of A Year in Provence pays tribute to the most endearing and enduring aspects of his life in France - the charming and indelible parade of village life, the sheer beauty, the ancient history. He celebrates the café and lists some of his favorites; identifies his favorite villages, restaurants, and open-air markets; and recounts his most memorable meals.
A celebration of 25 years of Provençal living - of lessons learned and changes observed - with his final book, Mayle has crafted a lasting love letter to his adopted home, marked by his signature warmth, wit, and humor.

Provence, 1970 is about a singular historic moment. In the winter of that year, more or less coincidentally, the iconic culinary figures James Beard, M.F.K. Fisher, Julia Child, Richard Olney, Simone Beck, and Judith Jones found themselves together in the South of France. They cooked and ate, talked and argued, about the future of food in America, the meaning of taste, and the limits of snobbery.

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

She returned to England a few hours later having put in an offer on a rundown old barn in the rural Seven Valleys area of Pas de Calais. This was not something she'd expected or planned for. Janine eventually gave up her job in London to move with her husband to live the good life in France. Or so she hoped. While getting to grips with the locals and la vie Française, and renovating her dilapidated new house, a building lacking the comforts of mains drainage, heating, or proper rooms.

Reseñas de la Crítica
"Fans of Mayle (who died in January) will be delighted by this final book from Provence’s most impassioned booster.... Composed in a uniformly bright and jocular voice, this is a breezy valedictory note for a much admired writer." (Publishers Weekly)
"[Mayle’s] keen eye and wit are much on display in this all-new collection of writings on his times in the south of France.” (The Philadelphia Inquirer)
"A bittersweet pleasure... While Mayle can pen a mouthwatering description of bouillabaisse, what has always drawn his readers to his writing are his loving portraits of people, community and the Provencal way of life." (Carla Jean Whitley, BookPage)

Acquired Tastes is a celebration of life's extravagances. It explores an aspect of human nature that, although dormant in hard economic times, is capable of erupting with the hint of good fortune and the drop of a credit card. It samples the luxuries of Havana cigars, Parisian hotels, bespoke London tailoring, and handmade shoes; discusses the proper color for a stretch limousine; and weighs the cost versus the pleasure of keeping a mistress.

Historia
Provence, 1970 is about a singular historic moment. In the winter of that year, more or less coincidentally, the iconic culinary figures James Beard, M.F.K. Fisher, Julia Child, Richard Olney, Simone Beck, and Judith Jones found themselves together in the South of France. They cooked and ate, talked and argued, about the future of food in America, the meaning of taste, and the limits of snobbery.

Historia
Set in Hollywood, Paris, Bordeaux, and Marseille, Peter Mayle’s newest and most delightful novel is filled with culinary delights, sumptuous wines, and colorful characters. It’s also a lot of fun. The story begins high above Los Angeles, at the extravagant home and equally impressive wine cellar of entertainment lawyer Danny Roth. Unfortunately, after inviting the Los Angeles Times to write an extensive profile extolling the liquid treasures of his collection, Roth finds himself the victim of a world-class wine heist.

Historia
One grey dismal day, Janine Marsh was on a trip to northern France to pick up some cheap wine.

Too short
A fabulous trip to and through France. I wish the book ( and the author) could have gone on and on

I couldn’t finish it
The narrator is rough. The story was probably good, but I just couldn’t get through his weird intonations.

Loving tribute to a glorious place
Peter Mayle inspired me to visit Provence and in this book, he paid tribute to the wonders of the region, including the delights and peculiarities of everyday life. A truly wonderful book (especially if you have been there or plan to go)! Feels like a mini vacation. Rest In Peace, Dear Mr. Mayle.

Pleasant faire
I liked the narrator — unlike another reviewer, I did not find him pompous at all. Instead, he had a quality of tongue-in-cheek humor to his voice and intonation that I found charmingly fitted the text he was reading.

Les derniers mots de Peter Mayle
Oh, how I will miss his wonderful stories! This last work is beautifully narrated! It has all the lovely descriptions of living in the South of France and dry humor that I enjoy. I treasure all his books and will read them over and over again!

Delightful as always
Peter Mayle’s way of spinning a tale brings the reader into his world in a delightful entertaining manner. I’ve enjoyed all the books he has written about his life in Provence. I was extremely saddened to hear of his passing.
