I couldn’t finish it

The narrator is rough. The story was probably good, but I just couldn’t get through his weird intonations.

A fabulous trip to and through France. I wish the book ( and the author) could have gone on and on

Loving tribute to a glorious place

Peter Mayle inspired me to visit Provence and in this book, he paid tribute to the wonders of the region, including the delights and peculiarities of everyday life. A truly wonderful book (especially if you have been there or plan to go)! Feels like a mini vacation. Rest In Peace, Dear Mr. Mayle.

Enchanting!

This is my first experience with this Author, now I am eager to catch up with the rest of his imaginative writings. So sorry to learn of his passing, my condolences to His dear wife. Someday, if she feels up to it, it would be a delight to see some of her photos. and hear her perspective of that lovely place...the place they brought to life for the rest of us.

I have heard wonderful things about the narrator, and they all were true...he made the story rich and oh so French!

Overall, a delight for anyone!

By an adopted "son" who embrace the quirks with love and joy. A summer favorite.

Pleasant faire

I liked the narrator — unlike another reviewer, I did not find him pompous at all. Instead, he had a quality of tongue-in-cheek humor to his voice and intonation that I found charmingly fitted the text he was reading.
