Resumen del Editor

It was Mariah’s worst choice - and the best decision.

As open adoptions go, it’s a dream scenario. But that doesn’t make saying goodbye any easier. From the hit true storytelling podcast RISK! comes a beautiful and heart-aching memoir of a mother’s love.

Mariah MacCarthy was a financially strapped playwright in Queens with two roommates. Nothing about that situation said Let’s add a baby to this. Nine months later, having Leo adopted by two gay dads was the most loving solution possible. All Mariah fears now is becoming a stranger. But as four lives are irrevocably changed, Mariah discovers that embracing the moment of farewell is just the beginning of a family story, by turns joyous and devastating.

Touching

This book was very touching. I put my child up for adoption when I was 17 and it was also an open adoption. This brought back many memories for me. My husband and I have been able to in turn adopt our own child 6 years ago. Both sides are scary, heart breaking and poignant. Bitter sweet really. Bravo!!

Short but Sweet

Was way to short, which I knew going in.
However, this hit home for me in so many, many ways.

Mariah MacCarthy did an awesome job, a little to fast talking for me since I wanted the story to last longer.

There is no way in this world I could have done what Mariah did, as far as seeing her son on a regular basis....that would have tore my heart out.

I had given my 3rd child up for adoption in 1985 and when he was 19, we met for the 1st time and still stay in touch for most part.

A Very Real Heartbreaker!

"My Son, Their Son" is a small novella I justed finished listening to through Audible.com was a very heartwrenching, tear jerker, and emotional book for me. The story was about a young woman, who found herself pregnant; faced with several decisions that millions of women are up against everyday, many making these decisions on their own.
One major road block for this young woman; as for most women in her condition is, not being financially nor emotionally ready for a baby at this early stage of her young adulthood.

The author; Mariah MacCarthy, is also the narrator. She tells the story with such strong emotions, explaining the raw truth, from start to finish.

I'm still new with writing book reviews, so I'm still not sure how much to share in regards to the storyline, without ruining it for future readers. So I will say, although the novella can be read in a quick 39mins or so, I LOVED every minute. You won't be disappointed, just be ready with a few Kleenex.

Found myself wanting more / loved it!

As an adoptive (same-sex) father I was thrilled to happen upon this short story. It’s an amazing tale and one that I wish we could have had more of. The author’s candor is refreshing. There is a stigma attached to open adoption and stories like Mariah’s can help to shatter the stigma and myth surrounding adoption participation open-adoption. Having been on the other side of this relationship as an adoptive parent, the story gave me a new appreciation for the sacrifices birthmoms make for their children. My only wish is that we could get this turned into a longer non-fiction book.

Enjoyable

I appreciated their story. It was beautiful and heartfelt. The story wasn't especially unique but who says it has to be??
