Blown Away

I grew up with Brooke and though we never met, our surroundings in NYC and our careers overlapped in some ways. I didn't know this when I started and I also thought her voice would annoy me. It didn't. She is insightful, brave, HONEST, hardworking, TOGETHER. Amazingly together given her experiences. I am hereby officially a fan. If I ever meet her I might just tell her that I learned a lot about my own mom from her. I can't believe a book about Teri Shields would change me so!!! The only reason it wasn't all 5 stars is that I cringed every time she said "Momma". Probably says more about me than the book. I have never heard or read anything that describes the complex mother/daughter relationship, esp in the face of chronic addiction. She must have done a sh-t load of work on herself to break it down like this. I respect her immensely for this.

Enlightening

I enjoyed this audio book very much. Brooke was very detailed and raw. She painted a story very different than the media presented at the time these milestones were occurring. It was refreshing to hear Brooke’s truth.

Yes! This relationship was so different than that portrayed by the media. Funny at times, quite sad at others, really worth a read if you are interested in mother-daughter relationships, Brooke Shields, or the impact of alcoholism.

Wonderfully told life stories

Brooke was the perfect choice for telling the story..she's the only one who lived it and can express the real and raw emotions throughout her long, successfull career and sometimes crazy life! Loved it!

Poignant mother/daughter love story.

This book met more than I expected. I've always thought Brook was a beautiful girl but now know her beauty is not skin deep only. Her story of their lives is so real and I understood how her mother in her way kept her grounded. I felt that this story has brought Brook to many realizations of a child of an alcoholic parent. This should be a mandatory book that children of alcoholic parents should read. Great job Brook!! I look forward to reading your other books.
