Resumen del Editor

Much of the church has forgotten that we worship a disabled God whose wounds survived resurrection, says Amy Kenny. It is time for the church to start treating disabled people as full members of the body of Christ who have much more to offer than a miraculous cure narrative and to learn from their embodied experiences.

Written by a disabled Christian, this book shows that the church is missing out on the prophetic witness and blessing of disability. Kenny reflects on her experiences inside the church to expose unintentional ableism and cast a new vision for Christian communities to engage disability justice. She shows that until we cultivate church spaces where people with disabilities can fully belong, flourish, and lead, we are not valuing the diverse members of the body of Christ.

Offering a unique blend of personal storytelling, fresh and compelling writing, biblical exegesis, and practical application, this book invites listeners to participate in disability justice and create a more inclusive community in church and parachurch spaces. Engaging content such as reflection questions and top-ten lists are included.

A worthwhile read

This is a topic that needs to be discussed more and I’m grateful that this work exists and specifically that it was written by a disabled person. My main issue with the book is that it feels a bit repetitive at times, specifically with the charts and re-mentioning of references, but that does also help reinforce the information. Overall a solid option.

This book is a volatile, yet controlled, scream.

For anyone with a disability who has been stopped in a restaurant, department store, on the street, to be prayed for because that person believes you are not whole in the lives we have, this book will give a sense of freedom and companionship. As a blind pastor, I continue to hear the story of the Widow and the Unjust Judge: this book can be the persistent cry for belonging. I highly recommend that EVERYONE read this.

Completely open up my perspective.

As a mom of a child who is currently non-speaking and on the autism spectrum I am so grateful for this work. I’ve been a long time believer but never have I heard or been provoked to this of the gospel in this light. Who wouldn’t want to serve a God who inclusive, intentional, and inviting!? Truly blessed me. Thanks!!!

Disabilities: being a woman, black & single

I loved this book! I think everyone with breath in their body should read this book.
LGBTQ...are PEOPLE just like those with physical disabilities. I'm a disciple of Christ and my heart breaks for anyone who suffers through living in the world full of "isms" - gender, race, creed...this book is GREAT if you every want to experience OUTSIDE YOUR NORMS...10 out of 10!!! Thank you for sharing you story!

Critique of the church's view on disability

This was a great and easy listen. It really makes you think about how disability has been viewed within the church as well as in society as a whole. I would recommend this for anyone who wants to understand the role that the church should have in serving individuals with disabilities from the viewpoint of someone with a disability.

Challenging and important

This book is valuable both theologically and pragmatically for both disabled and non-disabled Christians. Prepare to feel all the feels. But you won’t be sorry.
