An interesting trip to ancient Egypt!

A little over a month ago I read an advance Reader Copy of Murder in the Black Land and posted my review which is included below. This month I listened to the audiobook expertly narrated by the author – Resa Nelson. Listening to Murder in the Black Land was just as entertaining as my original reading of the story. Resa’s narration brought all the characters to life in ways I hadn’t experienced with my reading. The following is my original review

I’ve read and listened to numerous books/series by Resa Nelson and have come to rely on her ability to weave history into her stories making much of each story feel like something I might have read in a history book. Murder in the Black Land was an interesting departure from the Asian/China based stories because of the Egyptian mythology it is based on. This story has elements incorporated that make the reader question how they figure into the overall story which makes the mystique of the story even more compelling. I received an Advance Reader copy from the author and chose to provide this review.

Excellent prequel

Very intriguing story concept. I really enjoyed listening to this. Highly recommended to all. Bonus for being narrated by the actual author. Well done!

Short but good

This is an interesting book. It did take a while to get to the mystery. The characters are relatable. The prince is spoiled and only thinks of himself. It is a short story.

A great start to the series.

I was drawn into the story from the beginning, and liked the juxtaposition of ancient Egypt with the modern world. To clarify, it's not a time travel story — it's like ancient Egypt exists in the here and now.

Queen Angelique is a strong woman making hard decisions to do her best for her people and their country. Not everyone agrees with her, which is where the betrayal and murder come in.

I liked how the story was told from several points of view, which allowed the narrative to unfold so the reader got all the information as it was needed.

The author did an excellent job narrating her story.

This story is a prequel, and I think it ends at the perfect place to set up events for the next book.
