Resumen del Editor

From the author of the New York Times best seller Juliet comes a mesmerizing novel about a young scholar who risks her reputation—and her life—on a thrilling journey to prove that the legendary warrior women known as the Amazons actually existed.

Oxford lecturer Diana Morgan is an expert on Greek mythology. Her obsession with the Amazons started in childhood when her eccentric grandmother claimed to be one herself—before vanishing without a trace. Diana’s colleagues shake their heads at her Amazon fixation. But then a mysterious, well-financed foundation makes Diana an offer she cannot refuse.

Traveling to North Africa, Diana teams up with Nick Barran, an enigmatic Middle Eastern guide, and begins deciphering an unusual inscription on the wall of a recently unearthed temple. There she discovers the name of the first Amazon queen, Myrina, who crossed the Mediterranean in a heroic attempt to liberate her kidnapped sisters from Greek pirates, only to become embroiled in the most famous conflict of the ancient world—the Trojan War. Taking their cue from the inscription, Diana and Nick set out to find the fabled treasure that Myrina and her Amazon sisters salvaged from the embattled city of Troy so long ago. Diana doesn’t know the nature of the treasure, but she does know that someone is shadowing her, and that Nick has a sinister agenda of his own. With danger lurking at every turn, and unsure of whom to trust, Diana finds herself on a daring and dangerous quest for truth that will forever change her world.

Sweeping from England to North Africa to Greece and the ruins of ancient Troy, and navigating between present and past, The Lost Sisterhood is a breathtaking, passionate adventure of two women on parallel journeys, separated by time, who must fight to keep the lives and legacy of the Amazons from being lost forever.

Not a Bad Book

If you could sum up The Lost Sisterhood in three words, what would they be?

Informative, Interesting, Action-Packed.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the information on Amazons and the relationship between the main character and her grandmother.

Have you listened to any of Cassandra Campbell’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Neither, though I did worry about Nick.

Any additional comments?

This book is not in the same class as say Outlander but the information and the juxtaposition of the time of antiquity and present was interesting.

I had expected something similar to Juliet

Is there anything you would change about this book?

More historical facts, more complexity in story

Would you recommend The Lost Sisterhood to your friends? Why or why not?

No. I know they'd be disappointed.

Could you see The Lost Sisterhood being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

No. I would rather see Juliet made into a movie.

Any additional comments?

I'll still buy the next book by Anne Fortier. She writes beautifully. It's just that she needs someting concret to write about. Perhaps more research?

Awe and Admiration

Just finished the story. I am in awe and admiration of the research, the scholarship, the brilliantly inventive story, and the excellent voice work of the reader. What a great ride!

Deserves a Re-Read..... that good

What could capture the imagination more than the idea of higher education, Ivy League type schools and Oxford University, and Amazonia?

I was raised by readers. I had wonderful, literate, strong woman in my life from a young age. By that I don't mean "stuffy or haughty" but the "ever learning" often self taught which resonated with these beautiful strong ancient women. My first beautiful leather hardback book was "The Greek Myths". This book took me back to every adventure and quandry as I sought strong women role models without the capricious temperaments of the Goddesses.

I thoroughly enjoyed the time jumps from Ancient Greece, Troy and Ephesus to modern day Europe. The beauty of finding a matriarchal belief system that doesn't subjugate males (and not judging those that choose celibacy or outright rejecting the patriarchy).

This book tells some of our greatest myths and shows some of our classic heros/ heroines as anti-heroes, challenges us to think not only of the past, our present but the future. They are so wonderfully thought out and written.
There are a few scenarios that seem a bit "Dan Brown-ish" to me. But that's all good and fine for all the beauty, descriptive word paintings and very inspirational viewpoints of women throughout history.
I have strong, intelligent, brave daughters and I want them to read this book.
Are there Amazons living among us? I sincerely hope so.

Pretty good.

What did you love best about The Lost Sisterhood?

In most stories similar to this one, reality comes second. In life our decisions have consequences and sometimes, those consequences hurt us. In this story, the author addressed this. The women fought bravely and made tough decisions. They were effected by these decisions, but they continued to preserver. There is also a message that I wish people today would realize. "Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." While this quote actually originated in the mind of Benjamin Franklin, The Lost Sisterhood is a story of it's basic understanding. In addition, it's women surviving without men, something most societies would laugh at.

What did you like best about this story?

The beautiful message behind the determination and love that the characters imbued.

What does Cassandra Campbell bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Cassandra did a good job with the various accents.

Who was the most memorable character of The Lost Sisterhood and why?

Myrina, can't check the spelling, sorry. She experienced pain and loss from an early age, but never gave up. The trials and tribulations that she endured were more than most could/would survive. With all of that, she still continued to fight for what she believed, love her sisters, and live an honest life. Her legacy lived on.

Any additional comments?

This was an empowering read. It's clear that it is set in the fiction world, however, much food for thought can be garnered from the story. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it.

Creatively told story

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If someone liked history, adventure, romance, mystery all rolled into one, this would be the perfect story for them.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Lost Sisterhood?

Each moment Diane interacted with her grandmother. I loved the sass of the older woman.

What does Cassandra Campbell bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The life she brought to each charcter kept me interested.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Multiple times this book had me on the edge of my seat or laughing at some sassy moment between multiple characters.

Any additional comments?

This style of writing may not intregue everyone, but I thouroughly enjoy the writings of Anne Fortier. If you stick with the story to the end, you may find some aspects of the story that you will find entertaining. Happy readings!

Ok, but I do not recommend it.

This story was not what I thought it would be, but when I realized what it really was about, I was open to the premise. It is a very long book (which normally I like), but I never really got into the story. The narrator is very good and was not the problem at all. There was no humor in it and the action was simple and frankly boring to me. I cannot recommend this book. And, frankly, I am very liberal with my appreciation. I usually like every book.

But, this is just my opinion - if you are interested in it, you should try it.

Wonderful!

Great narration, gripping story (although a little slow to start). It is a lengthy production but I sped it up to 1.5x and it helped immensely!

Not that impressed

Would you try another book from Anne Fortier and/or Cassandra Campbell?

I liked Juliet so I would probably try another book by Fortier. Not sure I will listen to Campbell again.

How could the performance have been better?

The accents were not very good. For instance, after listening to all the outlander books by Gabaldon, Campbell's Scottish accent for Craig sounded more Irish. Also, Campbell's narration just didn't feel natural to me and didn't seem to flow the way other books have. I had to stop listening to the narration on several occasions and read myself because I wasn't into it.
