Resumen del Editor

In the latest from the best-selling author of Murder on St. Nicholas Avenue, former police sergeant Frank Malloy and his wife adjust to life in New York high society as they investigate a death in the field of higher learning....

After spending his first few weeks as a private detective investigating infidelities of the wealthy, Frank has a more serious case at hand.

Abigail Northrup of Tarrytown, New York, was her parents' pride and joy. After graduating from a prestigious women's college in Morningside Heights, she took a job there as an instructor. She also joined the ranks of the New Women, ladies planning for lives without husbands in which they make their own decisions and make a difference in the world. Unfortunately, her murder ended all that.

When the police declare the incident a random attack and refuse to investigate further, Abigail's parents request Frank's help. Of course he'll need Sarah's assistance, as she's more familiar with the world of academia, and it will be far easier for her to interview the lady professors. Yet difficulties arise as they learn that although Miss Northrup may have been an exemplary student and teacher, she lived in a world of secrets and lies.

EXCELLENT! MOST ENJOYABLE.

Victoria Thompson did it again. Very well written. Good plot. Kept me glued to the book. I could not guess the murderer. Very well performed by Suzanne Toren. I hope the next book will come out ASAP.

Extremely well done, except...

Narration was awesome, overall story was awesome. Now, why did both women involved need to die? Maybe one, but not both. And I'll be honest, the wrap up was a little weak this time. Hopefully smash characters will still make an appearance.

Very good listen!

This has been a fascinating series to follow. Story lines and plots have generally always been pretty good, but the narration has ranged from terrible to (especially this book) excellent, and there seems to have been a recent major remodel of characters and lifestyle of many of the people who have populated these stories. For the most part, a great improvement. For instance, many folks who were somewhat peripheral (like Sarah Brandt's parents) have become much more active. And then there is the rags-to-riches scenario that has altered the entire tone of the stories.

Personally, I used to cringe at some of the narration, it was so bad. But something there has changed a lot, and Suzanne Toren is very pleasant to listen to now. She is pitch perfect in this book. Sadly, however, I am not very thrilled with the sudden turn of events where Frank Malloy became incredibly wealthy, left the police and opened his own Investigation Agency. The plot and mystery are good, but I liked the previous setup better. It was certainly more realistic.

One thing that Victoria Thompson tends to do is focus on a social issue, around which she crafts each story. This one involves women who are entering the teaching field, living in new ways that many (at this time in history) don't understand. Though I like the characters and her style of writing, one thing that draws me to these books is always the way she takes on sensitive topics. Kudos to her for that. I just took one star away from the story, though, because this sudden wealth that Frank has acquired is hard to relate to, it changed the whole structure of the series, and I just miss the way they were before. My personal taste. But I do enjoy this series. The plots and the narration overall, just keep improving.

great read!!

here's a story that keeps you wanting more, and it also makes it very difficult to figure out who the Killer is. The performer was great one of my best listens ever!

Lukewarm

I wasn’t particularly impressed with this installment, the premise of why the murderer did what he did was hard to go along with. As far as motives go, it was pretty flimsy.

I do like the latest turn in Frank and Sarah’s storyline, so I am looking forward to the next episode!
