Resumen del Editor

In the wake of World War I, Jane Wunderly - a thoroughly modern young American widow - is traveling abroad, enjoying the hospitality of an English lord and a perfectly proper manor house, until murder makes an unwelcome appearance....

England, 1926: Wedgefield Manor, deep in the tranquil Essex countryside, provides a welcome rest stop for Jane and her matchmaking Aunt Millie before their return to America. While Millie spends time with her long-lost daughter, Lillian, and their host, Lord Hughes, Jane fills the hours devouring mystery novels and taking flying lessons - much to Millie's disapproval. But any danger in the air is eclipsed by tragedy on the ground when one of the estate's mechanics, Air Force veteran Simon Marshall, is killed in a motorcar collision.

The sliced brake cables prove this was no accident, yet was the intended victim someone other than Simon? The house is full of suspects - visiting relations, secretive servants, strangers prowling the grounds at night - and also full of targets. The enigmatic Mr. Redvers, who helped Jane solve a murder in Egypt, arrives on the scene to once more offer his assistance. It seems that everyone at Wedgefield wants Jane to help protect the Hughes family. But while she searches for answers, is she overlooking a killer hiding in plain sight?

love these characters!!

I've listened to all 3 Jane Wonderly books several times, and I just enjoy them so much. The characters really come to life and are full of depth. The stories are clever and packed with rich detail. Jane is a strong character, and fights sexism with wit and charm, but I still feel that the books are an accurate representation of the times they're set in. The sexism shows itself realistically. all in all, wonderful little mystery books!

Enjoyable Read

Setting the Scene: In 1926, American widow Jane Wunderly and her matchmaking Aunt Millie are visiting Lord Hughes and his daughter at Wedgefield Manor in the countryside of Essex County. Lord Hughes aids veterans of WWI with jobs on his estate. Jane is enjoying taking flying lessons from one of them. All seems well until the death of one of the young vets in a traffic accident, and when it is discovered that the brake lines were cut, it is also clear that it was no accident. When Lord Hughes is implicated and additional attempts are made on the lives of various household members, Jane is asked to help get to the bottom of things. Fortunately, the dashing Redvers appears on the scene to offer his assistance, once again.

What I Thought: This was another delightful read. While Jane's adventurous spirit is on full display, she and Redvers make a good team in unraveling the events at Wedgefield Manor. There are subplots and suspects aplenty, and the mystery kept me guessing. I am compelled to say that I did find the insertion of homosexuality into the storyline objectionable and unnecessary to the story. For that reason, this book received only a 4 rather than a 5 star rating.

I also applaud the narration of this book. The voices and accents were well done.

The second story lives up to everything the first

This story picks up where the first story left off. It is truly a glorious read as the narrator has the voices down perfectly. I would highly, highly recommend this book.

Tired of stupid women detectives!

I found myself getting very frustrated with the main character, she’s just so dumb sometimes. Also, could not get into the narrators voice, didn’t seem fitting for this particular story. All in all very disappointed.

A heads up, please.

First the positive: I like Sarah Zimmerman’s narration style very much although I tend to avoid books with American accents. Now the negatives: I strongly object to the constant inclusion of homosexual content, especially when it adds nothing to the plot. Please advise in the synopsis if this is in the book. Also, as a professional writer, the author should know that one does not refer to a single person as “they”. That was done a number of times. I am offended by the misuse of pronouns which also was common. I will be returning this book.
