Resumen del Editor

One would hardly call them birds of a feather, but thrill-seeking American adventuress Beryl Helliwell and quietly reserved Brit Edwina Davenport do one thing very well together - solve murders.

Sharing lodging in the sleepy English village of Walmsley Parva has eased some of the financial strain on the two old school chums, but money is still tight in these lean years following the Great War. All of Beryl's ex-husbands have proven reluctant to part with her alimony, which is most inconvenient. So when the local vicar - and pigeon-racing club president - approaches them with a private inquiry opportunity, the ladies eagerly accept. There's been a spot of bother: The treasurer has absconded with the club's funds and several prized birds. Beryl and Edwina hope to flush out the missing man by checking his boardinghouse and place of employment at the coal mine.

But when they visit the man's loft, they find their elusive quarry lying in white feathers and a pool of crimson blood, stabbed to death - the only witnesses cooing mournfully. After a stiff gin fizz, the ladies resume their search for the missing funds and prized birds - and now a murderer. Beryl and Edwina aren't shy about ruffling a few feathers as they home in on their suspects. But they had better find the killer fast, before their sleuthing career is cut short.

Win-Win!

Barbara Rosenblat has quickly become one of my favorite narrators! Her propensity for various voices and nuances of accents, together with her talent for dramatic and comedic emphases thoroughly spotlights Ms Ellicott's charmingly entertaining books. A total win-win!

Continued fun with Edwina and Beryl

This second book by Jessica Ellicott and read by Barbara Rosenblat is delightful. This installment builds on the relationship between the two friends, Edwina and Beryl to uncover new scandals and murder. Characters introduced in the first book, " Murder in an English Village" evolve to more featured roles in this book -Edwina's gardner, the local chief of police and others. New characters add new depth to the story. Ms. Ellicott continues to weave a fabulous tale that mixes history, gentle humor, and well constructed mystery. Again, Ms. Rosenblat is brings to life all the characters and the story with her marvelous narration. II can't wait for Ms. Ellicott's third book due out this year and Ms. Rosenblat's production due out on Audible in 2020. It can't come too soon.

Nice story with strange "American" accent

This book is a fun but undemanding murder mystery.

There was a time about 20 years ago when no British actor seemed to be able to do an American accent. Then came X Files and The Wire, and all that changed. This one is a bit of a throwback to that old time. The American accent in this book is unrecognizable as anything American. It took me about an hour of listening to figure out that it was even supposed to be an American. But other than that, it's a perfectly entertaining story and well narrated.

Conflicted

I'm a huge fan of the narrator Barbara Rosenblat, so it was a no brainer to include this book on a 2 for 1 deal. A gamut of emotions ran thru me as I listened to three quarters of the book. Boring? Over exaggeration by the narrator? Bad writing? Not enough balance of female and male characters in this English mystery? Too many red herrings? In the last quarter of the book everything settled down (including the narrator) and the story came to a satisfying conclusion. So the story was OK, and Barbara Rosenblat was OK (this was not one of her finest). And thank you Audible for changing the cover to Pigeons.
