Extremely amusing tale
I admit I like old-fashioned, droll stories. Simon Brett, as author and narrator, delivers in the Mrs. Pargeter series. This entry diverted me mightily during a few days of soul crushing international events. The value of escapist entertainment during very tough times should never be dismissed. An Amusing Listen
I have enjoyed this series because it’s just easy and amusing listening. There’s nothing particularly earth shattering about it but it doesn’t leave you tainted by vulgarity either. Simon Brett has a reading style in which he breathes in heavily through his nose (I think) in between phrases. It became distracting to me in all of his novels but it’s even more apparent in this one, although I do like his characterizations and reading. The book is okay; easy to listen to and that in itself is a good thing.
