Resumen del Editor

Mrs. Dalloway was the breakthrough novel by Virginia Woolf that solidified her reputation as one of the most important writers of her era. Written in a new, free-wheeling style for the time, the book details a day in the life of Clarissa Dalloway, a British socialite in post-First World War England.

Originally written as The Hours, Woolf's novel was based on two earlier short stories, Mrs. Dalloway in Bond Street and The Prime Minister. The book takes place in a single day, and describes the eponymous lead character as she prepares for and hosts a party.

Looping backwards and forwards in time, the listener is given a glimpse into the mind of Mrs. Dalloway, and several of her guests, as they go about their day. Received with rapturous reviews upon its debut, Mrs. Dalloway was included on Time Magazine's list of the 100 best English-language novels ever written.

It is presented here in its original and unabridged format, and is read by renowned audiobook narrator and actor Sara Nichols.

pleasant reading

Sara Nichols nailed it, so english, brought characters to life she did.
The story is lovely, love the details, while the bio is really depressing.

Yes but No

The characters and storyline are insufferable. It was so painful to read that I purchased the Audible version to listen as I read along. Listening alone was almost as bad, but at least the vocal gave me an idea of the dynamic and tone throughout the….story(?), I guess we should call it. Beautiful writing, truly, if you like that sort of flowery, analyzed-to-death, descriptive writing. I get that it’s a classic, but the whole British modernist thing just isn’t my cup of tea.

Thought maybe it would have improved as I aged

It's an awful lot of words for one day in the life of anyone. Probably a better play than a book. It has not improved with time.

I really wanted to like this book

I found the book slow moving and at times downright boring. I really wanted to like it because it is so famous and well loved by scholars. The Hours was better— sort of.
Maybe it wasn’t in the right headspace to be listening to something so intense and intellectual. I finished it but not as quickly as usual and mostly just to get it over with hoping there would be some glimmer of excitement.
