Narrated by Westworld's Louis Herthum, Wiseguys called him "the Keith Richards of the American Mafia" and JFK hero Jim Garrison denounced him as "one of the most notorious vice operators in the history of New Orleans"...but you can just call him Mr. New Orleans.

Mr. New Orleans tells the incredible story of Frenchy Brouillette, a redneck Cajun teenager who stole his big brother's motorcycle and embarked on a 60-year vacation to New Orleans, where he became a legendary gangster and the underworld political fixer for his cousin, Louisiana governor Edwin Edwards. Written by Crescent City native Matthew Randazzo V, the wickedly funny Mr. New Orleans is the first book to ever break the code of secrecy of the New Orleans Mafia Family, the oldest and most mysterious criminal secret society in America.

A must read/listen if you wish to understand another side of New Orleans beyond the haunts and party's. The city is alive even in its dead, and this dimension is just another example of the layers that makes New Orleans a city like no other.

A great dive into the New Orleans underworld !

I grew up in nola. Went to all boys high school in uptown nola in early 80s. We spent most weekends in "The Quarters" in those years. I knew a lot of FQ lore from what my parents told me. (My Folks knew Marcello) but nothing compares to Frenchies life story. Riveting.
I highly recommend the book "Seaspray and Whiskey" as a compliment to Mr Nola. True story of a an actual tramp ship voyage from UK to NOLA in 1962 with a cargo of whiskey. The vessels discharge dock was Gov Nicholls Wharf adjacent to the FQ. Absolutely hilarious. A must read for every new orleanian. You'll thank me later. Other great compliments are "Me and Lee" "Dr Mary's Monkey" "The French Quarter" by Herbert Asbury. "The Last Madam"

Story would make for a great Sopranos style series. But much funnier.

I am absolutely in awe of Frenchy and this story, to be honest. im practically obsessed with this man at this juncture. What i like most about Frenchy is that he rarely gave any worldly things any desperate energy, which in turn made everything attract to him. thats what i for sure learned from Frenchy in this book: Just be yourself and dont be so desperate for worldly things, not only will you get it, eventually what u want will come looking for you, hence how he NEVER recruited women on his team! They came looking for him! I listen to the audiobook every night like it’s ASMR. The Game is to be sold and not told. How cool would it have been to see Frenchy leaning next to his pink convertible before fats bought it. I could definitely see Frenchy’s story as a biopic like The Irishman, or a TV Series like Snowfall or Sopranos! I would love to watch a slowburn season to season tv series based on Frenchy like just shut up and take my money at this point! Marksville is also not far from my hometown of Natchitoches! I moved to New Orleans around 3 years ago and I will tell ya, I will live in any city in the world, as long as it’s New Orleans. Its rather very unfortunate that Frenchy is gone, I wish I could have just had one convo with him. I know I never met him and if anything i might get startstruck because there’s cool and then there’s Frenchy Brouillete sitting in the cab with the door propped open giving orders Cool, its hard to top that. I would also love to give a HUGE thank you to Mr. Randazzo for making his story heard, and forever immortalizing him in this world! Mr. Randazzo if ur reading this come to Pier 424 Seafood and ur Entree is on me y’heardme?? :) (no drinks tho bro no drinks i cant do that unfortunately)

I grew up in New Orleans. Listening to this book was music to my ears. I know so many people mentioned, not personally, but by name. I remember some of the events in the book. The narrator is fantastic and will keep you in stitches. Great listen.
