Finally, someone to validate my thoughts as I wake up from this collective coma away from rationality

Bowles doesn’t get wrapped up in the self-indulgences of personal opinion. Rather, she lets the mental illness that is overly academic theory being unleashed onto society speak for itself. I don’t even think the author and I necessarily have the same political persuasions in every regard, but she presents the fair, everyday-man’s assessment of the last couple of years. (Sorry, everyday-they’s) This is 100% a reaction to our generation (millennials and under) being worse off than our parents and the hollowing out of the middle class. If all these progressives described in the book had the opportunity to own homes and the ability to afford children, these symptoms of an ailing society wouldn’t be nearly as loud or confusing. There’s a reason the only friends I have with children (at 33 y/o) are white, inter-generationally wealthy lesbians. Now we’re being tasked with rationalizing ourselves out of our own brainwashing. If Democrats and Republicans actually represented and were responsive to popular opinion, we wouldn’t be in this pickle. And why have people given up on sex? I find I have less time to fret the more 🐔 I put in my mouth. Cops lay better pipe than queers 9 out of 10 times; maybe these sexually deprived people would know that if instead of shouting “Fuck the Police” they just practiced what they preach. When you actually get out and talk to people different from yourself, you quickly realize that most people are trying to be good citizens. Exchange of ideas and perspectives is how we create a better society—something that is not achieved by being intellectually lazy and cancelling out what we don’t like.

Timely and perspicacious. That this gem of a book was narrated by the author herself made the chapters especially personable. I now intend to read more from Nellie Bowles; she merits attention.

This book is well written and puts a complex political movement into perspective without editorializing or passing judgement.

Nellie’s writing is crisp and funny, and her narration is excellent. As a fellow native San Franciscan, I particularly loved the chapter on our city. Everyone should read or listen to this book.
