Resumen del Editor

There are many reasons to behave immorally, but, so it seems, very few reasons to behave morally. In this short work, it is shown that all genuinely self-interested behavior embodies a certain morality. It is also shown that no viable ethical system requires its adherents to deny their self-interest.

Enlightens, sharpens awareness, makes me laugh

Killing a guy to pay for a third yacht? A guy who decides to be a saint and fixes sewage in a poor country, thus leading an utterly miserable life (versus a self-serving novelist who flourishes, selfishly)? A living thing that unreflectively feels only pleasurable sensations, one after another? These hypotheticals are wild, silly, and here, utterly meaningful.

What could be better? The whimsical examples make me grin and sometimes bust out laughing. I love intellect with a light touch (when meaning is not sacrificed). In real time I have flashes of new awareness. It is fun to have sudden clarity on things one had arrived at haphazardly, wrestled with, perhaps intuited at some level but never articulated, about choices, behaviors, and norms (personal and social). I see merits and defects in myself I hadn't thought about clearly. This work helps me clarify my choices, and feel less leaden about some of them.

The narrator has a casual, unobtrusive style that fits well. He only occasionally blunders, as in, once saying two things were "anti-ethical" when the author clearly meant "antithetical." But, his error rate is low.
