Resumen del Editor

If everything can be hacked, nothing can be trusted.

It’s 2025. Tanner Moore is at the top of his game in the high-stakes world of big technology. As C.T.O. of Paragon, the largest corporation in the world, Tanner is about to release the greatest convenience innovation in the history of eCommerce - drone delivery services to every inch of the globe.

But when an interview with journalist Amy Noral is secretly recorded and published by the clickbait media, Tanner’s fall from grace is swift and brutal.

He is fired, publicly condemned as a terrorist for comments he never made, and kidnapped by a mysterious vigilante group using surveillance data to track and kill their enemies. Tanner must navigate their underground headquarters full of violent zealots and hedonist hackers to find his way to freedom or see his drone technology used as the most advanced assassination tool ever devised.

Above ground, Amy, the only person who doubts Tanner’s guilt, delves into the string of mysterious circumstances surrounding Tanner’s disappearance. Risking her own well-being to find the truth, she meets a mysterious conspiracy theorist on the internet offering to help her uncover the vigilante group’s malicious purpose.

Moral Panic explores the collision of the most extreme elements of politics, ideology, and technological media manipulation. It wanders through the maze of modern surveillance with a skeptical eye on the data-driven world we live in, hoping an awareness of the possibility of such a story prevents it from coming true in the real world.

A phenomenal and disturbing future thriller

In Moral Panic, K.M. Ecke delivers an astonishingly relevant and disconcerting work of speculative fiction that delivers gut wrenching twists and turns throughout. In an era of big data, social media, drones, and our increasingly connected lives, Moral Panic manages to lay out all of the disturbing possibilities that lay in wait in the near future. The story focuses on the abduction and imprisonment of rising tech star Tanner Moore by a shadowy group of vigilantes that utilize a laundry list of current and not-so-future methods of coercion to achieve their goals. With scant help from the outside or from his abductors, the reader follows Tanner's desperate attempt to escape and regain some semblance of his life. I was absorbed in the story and world throughout the story and it builds to one of the most memorable climaxes I can remember.

It is alarming to see a number of events in the story that parallel the real world with a few others on our horizon. Ecke touches on everything from fabricated video and audio as a form of political and social blackmail to the terrifying degree of corruption that can occur within institutions from a few savvy bad actors with the right skills. Ultimately Moral Panic delivers one of the most gripping futuristic thrillers in years and should not be missed.

Great thriller

There is a whole lot story in this relatively short novel. At times I thought too much was going on too quickly. It has an interesting, and timely, plot given the amount of fake news and information manipulation that we have witnessed in recent months. K. M. Ecke does an awesome job as narrator.

Pretty Good Fiction And I Don't Read Fiction

Like I said, I don't read fiction, frankly most of it is boring to me, but this was different.

This moved fast, it also brought up some interesting aspects of society and the development of technology in our 'over tech age' of 2018.

What I liked the most was the main character Tanner, it was really easy to 'get into his head' while reading the book. I was thinking his thoughts, and I was fearing what he feared too. I was right in the struggle with him and that's one of the big reasons this book was cool.

This is a fun book and I've already recommended it to multiple friends, heck even two women that I went on a first date with heard my recommendation of this book.
