Resumen del Editor

By day, Angie, a 20-year veteran of the tech industry, is a data analyst at Tomo, the world's largest social networking company; by night, she exploits her database access to profile domestic abusers and kill the worst of them. She can't change her own traumatic past, but she can save other women.

When Tomo introduces a deceptive new product that preys on users' fears to drive up its own revenue, Angie sees Tomo for what it really is - another evil abuser. Using her coding and hacking expertise, she decides to destroy Tomo by building a new social network that is completely distributed, compartmentalized, and unstoppable. If she succeeds, it will be the end of all centralized power in the Internet.

But how can an anti-social, one-armed programmer with too many dark secrets succeed when the world's largest tech company is out to crush her and a no-name government black ops agency sets a psychopath to look into her growing digital footprint?

Decent techno thriller

I think the author may have been going for Mr robot meets Dexter, but the plot meanders about and seems to lose interest in that idea and becomes a book about a crazy person starting a tech start up, so Patrick Bateman meets silicon valley. I did not care for the performance. the book switches between 1st person and 3rd person perspectives, and the lack of character voice stylings made it difficult to follow along. I found myself backing up way too often. The main character is an unreliable narrator, which makes accepting the climax difficult. when it happens it seems contrived, though if you think back on previous parts of the book it makes sense. finally, I found the main character thoroughly unlikeable Though that may be because I didn't like the reader I found myself hoping for bad things to happen to her. I'll probably not go any further into the series.

Surprisingly Good

I waa skeptical, but the story kept my attention. I could not stop listening once the story climax. The flashbacks were not smooth at times. I believe my enjoyment is a result of my job, gender, and hobbies. My wife enjoyed the psychology . The imposter syndrome is real and was illustrated in this story. The privacy issue painted is fabricated image of reality. Unfortunately, the level of fabrication is debatable in some communities.

Fantastic thrill ride

Wait for it!!! The ending twist is worth listening to the whole book but the whole story is full of entertaining twists and turns. Great listen for tech junkies!

Interesting but very technical.

You'll enjoy this book immensely if you have some familiarity with coding or hacking. If not you'll probably be a little bored with this title.

Another great Cyber-Fiction from Herring!

It doesn't match up to the Singularly Series books, though that's a tough tale to top. This is still a great Cyber Fiction tale, written in classic Hertling style and I look forward to more books from him. Certainly one of the top Cyber Fiction authors of today.

A fictional book that applies to today

Narrorator- fantastic.
Story- captivating.
Overall- leaves you thinking beyond the story.

This book not only provided a very awesome tale but also made me think about my place in social media. I thought it was current with the times and kept me entertained throughout.

Another excellent book by Hertling

As usual, I left the book feeling like I was saying goodbye to a friend. Luckily, there is a sequel! Perfect character development with zero clumsy exposition. Hertling brings you into their perspective and gives you the joy of sharing in their triumph by letting you feel their pain along the journey. I trust him to tie up loose threads neatly while I can never predict how that will happen and am always rewarded.

Great Plot, Character, & Tech

This book was a joy.

Getting did a great job on getting the computer hacking details right and was also insightful as to how search and social media giants fundamentally shift the balance of power in society. I'm hoping that someone will build the alternative network he proposes.

The main character suffers from PTSD from domestic abuse. I have no personal experience with that and don't understand how a male author could either, but I appreciate that it causes the reader to develop empathy/understanding. (Also curious if he got it right.)

Great plot and some interesting characters through and through. Spoken in first person narrative, secondary characters are not nearly as well developed.

Excellent narration and voices. I did notice 3 occasions where the narrator must have read the word wrong because the sentence otherwise would not make sense.

A clever ending, but the disregard for physics (Glock/Roomba) stretches believability.

I worry that this review appears overly critical. just to be clear, I loved the book, I highly recommend, and I will seek out other books by Wm. Hertling in the future.
