overall, this was a better 2nd half, but still had many of the irritants that annoyed me in the full compilation

Pitifully bad pronunciations

I appreciate the narrators voice and clear diction. Unforgivable lack of preparation to pronounce words correctly.

So much to know!

So much of Greece permeates our language and the way we live. Although it’s not exactly like grease it is obvious grease was a big influence. This book investigate such things and I totally enjoyed it. Although it isn’t long it is packed with knowledge and tidbits that are interesting. I find although these books are educational they’re also very entertaining. I highly recommend modern Greece, even if you think you know everything about Greece you’ll definitely learn something new in the captivating history book.

This is very comprehensive and informative audio book on Modern Greece. Would highly recommend to others.

Wow

I though I knew Greece but after listening to this book all I can say is wow. I never knew how much Greece had to fight just to be able to be themselves and determine their own future. A very good listen and more than worth the time it took to learn so much.

Wikipedia read by AI

You can probably get just as much, and as accurate, by having AI read you Wikipedia articles. It is not completely worthless, but of very little substance, and filled with small inaccuracies that lead you to question everything. I listened twice to confirm, but for example, yes, it does say Euboea is west of mainland Greece in Chapter 1. The pronunciation is atrocious, which makes it seem like AI is reading. Suleiman is Soo-LEE-uh-men. As someone with only basic knowledge of Greece, the facial issues were too much to believe in the credibility beyond anything more than cursory information.
