In December 1923, the formidable Dowager Viscountess Dalrymple has decided that for Christmas the family will all gather at Brockdene in Cornwall at the invitation of Lord Westmoor. Her daughter - Daisy Dalrymple Fletcher - is somewhat less than pleased but yields to the demands of her mother, especially as she'll be there just before the holidays working on another article for Town and Country about the estate itself. But the family gathering quickly goes awry.

Brockdene, it seems, is occupied only by the Norvilles - poor relations of Lord Westmoor - and Westmoor himself won't be joining them. So Daisy; her husband, Detective Chief Inspector Alec Fletcher of Scotland Yard; and their family must spend their Christmas holiday trapped in an ancestral estate with a rich history of lore, ghost stories, and rumors of hidden treasure and secret passageways with a family seething with resentments, grudges, and a faintly scandalous history.

The veneer of civility that pervades the halls of Brockdene, however, begins to wear thin when long-held family secrets threaten to bubble over, and one of the Christmas guests is found savagely murdered. With few clues as to who committed the murder, and with too many motives as to why, it is once again up to Daisy to sort out the truth that lies beneath a generation of poisonous secrets.

Love Lucy Rayner's narration

Wonderful book, wonderful narration. The Daisy Dalrymple Mysteries are some of the best cozy mysteries. The series is fabulous

Good read

Interesting plot, diverse cast of characters, new situation for interaction between Daisy and her mother.

Enjoyable

this was an interesting read. It held you interest to the very end. The narrative was fine for me.

Lovely book

The book is a wonderful addition to the series. I love that it’s a novel, not a short story, with a Christmas theme. My only complaint is the narrator. Thank goodness there were no Americans in this one, but some of the accents are painful.

Fun!!!

Always fun to read a Daisy Dalrymple mystery. What would Alec do without her. Enjoying a Christmas at an old estate with lore and ghosts. I love the character Daisy portrays-unpretentious, confident in herself and just plain nice.

Worth the read!

Loved it. The storyline and plot was great. Was hard to pause when I was busy.

Another nice adventure with Daisy

The narrator was great and the story engaging and well told. With all the usual characters and a quaint historic setting, the story was a classic Daisy adventure.

Another adventure

Christmas finds Daisy with family and friends. Of course that does not stop a murder from happening!

Luckily Her husband is there and can help wrap everything up!

Fun mystery

I enjoyed this one particularly because it took me almost all the way to the end to figure out the killer. I love Daisy and her quirky family. Another excellent story.
