Resumen del Editor

Banish math anxiety and give students of all ages a clear roadmap to success!

Mathematical Mindsets provides practical strategies and activities to help teachers and parents show all children, even those who are convinced that they are bad at math, that they can enjoy and succeed in math.

Jo Boaler - Stanford researcher, professor of math education, and expert on math learning - has studied why students don't like math and often fail in math classes. She's followed thousands of students through middle and high schools to study how they learn and to find the most effective ways to unleash the math potential in all students.

There is a clear gap between what research has shown to work in teaching math and what happens in schools and at home. This book bridges that gap by turning research findings into practical activities and advice. Boaler translates Carol Dweck's concept of "mindset" into math teaching and parenting strategies, showing how students can go from self-doubt to strong self-confidence, which is so important to math learning. Boaler reveals the steps that must be taken by schools and parents to improve math education for all.

Not very helpful for homeschool

I enjoyed the book and am glad I listened to it, but I don’t feel like I have anything more to help me with teaching math than I did before. If there were a curriculum or supplement that I could buy based on this I would. But as it is, it’s not very helpful for our homeschool. I don’t have the ability to teach in the way she describes because I honestly don’t understand higher level math concepts myself. I just don’t get it, so without a guide or curriculum I wouldn’t have a clue how to teach it. It did help me to have a better mindset about math in general though.

Great tool for teachers

I’ve been a Maths and Science tutor for many years, but have just started my teacher training for classroom teaching. This book has given me so many ideas and links to resources, that I’m looking forward to trying during my teaching placement. Very glad I have access to a copy via my University library though as the only down point of this version is the read out urls and the inability to see the referenced pictures.

Very good

Students, teachers, and parents should read this book. It is a bit repetitive, but OK.

Its a bit early on to say for sure, but I suspect that this book will exist for the totality of my career as the one that had the most impact.

Math is a language we all can learn

This book resonated with me so much. I always took to math but a traumatic experience in 6th grade left me feeling like I wasn’t able to grasp math. From that I didn’t apply myself. I graduated high school with a 1.7 gpa. Tested at below math, reading and English levels. Then at 19years old while in College the math professors took to me and believed in me and worked with me. Helped to understand the language of math. Fast forward I graduated with a 3.4 gpa and earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. I’m now a project manager for the Navy. My math mindset is reignited. Thank you Jo & Carol!!!

If only everyone understood this….

As a math coach - everything about this book is YES YES YES! But then the practical side of me says HOW? I’m just one person. But I will do my best to spread the word to change the world! Thanks for reigniting my passion around these beliefs!
