To hate and to scold....

Derek Chambers, Marquess of Whitlock, has a problem: his wife. She is the single most horrifying aspect of his life, and the only thing he has ever enjoyed about her are their truly spectacular fights. As such, he prefers having as little to do with her as possible. So when she unexpectedly summons him to London, he surprises himself by going, and finds his life turned upside down in ways he never thought possible.

To loathe and to perish....

Katherine despises her worthless and irritating husband, and nothing bothers her more than the fact that he actually came to London when she sent for him. Worst of all, now that he has come, she needs him to stay. With her. And with his every smile making her heart race, she begins to wonder if there could be more to him than meets the eye.

I enjoyed this book. It shows what two people who start out wrong can do with just giving each other a chance.

very touching

Excellent entertainment with unacknowledged love, interfering relatives and a fire in the house to bring everyone together.

Excellent

it was a clever story line. I loved the concept and the interaction. it felt a bit dragged out before reaching a good ending. overall I liked it alot.

Any additional comments?

Loved this story. Both the hero and heroine made me laugh constantly with their banter. I also enjoyed Moira's appearances since she knew just how to say what needed to be said. I really like romances with real humor and wit, not just silliness. I look forward to the rest of the series and hope it will be in Audible soon.

Very Enjoyable Read

MY TAKE
I really liked Derek and came to love Kate. Connolly does a great job demonstrating how a person can have a tough exterior yet be very vulnerable inside. That was Kate. I didn't get the impression Derek being an obedient son in the first book--not that we saw that much of him--but his portrayal was appropriate to those who show one face to their parents and another to everyone else.

The falling in love part took up a large part of the story. I loved best when they started learning about each other and the rules they'd each grown up with. I got really angry with Derek later for the way he lashed out but the eventual coming together was very touching.

I listened to the audiobook, and Jessica Elisa Boyd did a great job again.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes - I would recommend it with the caveat that no men of rank who lived in the time of this story would ever have indulged in - or lowered themselves to - physical labor. I do not see how this anachronistic detail was essential to the story but perhaps the author wanted the hero to be able to show off his physique through a sweat-soaked shirt.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The two protagonists played off each other very well. Moira, from the first in the Arrangements series, played a catalyst role in getting them to see one another in a different light

Which scene was your favorite?

Two were very affecting: When Derek watched and listen to Kate play the pianoforte and the picnic where the two of them gazed at the clouds and the sky.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Their last, ferocious fight and its aftermath of regret and sorrow in Derek and Kate.

Love grows slowly

Off the bat, I LOVE this series. I purposely listened to Book 2 last. A couple of things - the narrator's volume quality was subpar (it improves drastically in all the other books). The sound arched in several places...and I mean several.

Once you get past this, it was a good book. Not my favorite in the series but still a great listen.

Really Good!
