Resumen del Editor

Ripped from today's headlines, Brian Haig's new novel finds Army lawyer Sean Drummond caught between duty to Washington's elite and the soldiers in Iraq.

Dispatched to investigate the suicide of one of D.C.'s most influential defense officials, an ardent, early supporter of the war in Iraq, Drummond and his female partner find themselves in the middle of a tug-of-war between Washington's most influential power brokers and his own personal allegiance to the soldiers dying overseas. What he uncovers are the secrets that led to the war, secrets that, once exposed, would destroy public support and undermine the presidency. Now Drummond faces the greatest moral quandary of his life: what is the true meaning of patriotism?

Reseñas de la Crítica

"A marvelously twisted plot and marvelously twisted characters help along a tale in which Drummond actually gets to act a little human. Great entertainment; highly recommended." ( Library Journal)

Not the same...

Brian Haig has created a rich and compelling character named Sean Drummond but this time Sean didn't seem the same. It went off track for me when I heard the reader's voice -- too old for Sean. His female characters had deeper voices than the males. Please, bring back the old Sean and one of the other readers -- Scott Brick or John Rubenstein. Don't miss other Haig books. They really are fantastic.

timely

The book is on a timely topic and really quite good. The reader, however, does not do justice to the character of Sean Drummond. As a consequence, Drummond came across as too much of a heavy. I hope that Scott Brick returns as reader in the next book by Haig.

Excellent story just a bit 2 long

I have read several in th Drummond series and enjoy every one. The ending of this book finally tied up the lose ends. itjust seemed a little bit too long. I vey much appreciate and heartedly agree with the author's comments about this mystery , area of the world and the real people in uniform, protecting us and our country but sacrifices of American and others is the ultimate tragedy of war. I will continue he series for sure.

Good Book, Good Listen

Would you listen to Man in the Middle again? Why?

Maybe not. I thought the story was slow through the middle, then it started getting more involved, and interesting. I may listen again to clarify some parts.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The main charter, of course,

Miserable Narrator, Mediocre Story

I enjoyed Books 5 & 7 of this series, but Book 6... I struggled to get through this book. The narrator is irritating, like fingernails on a chalk board, & a far cry from the soothing yet engaging narrations of Scott Brick & Christopher Lane. Still, the entire time I listened to this book, I kept asking myself if the narration could have such a significant impact on my poor opinion of the story. In the end, I decided that, while the narration didn't help, this story is very "jerky" and poorly resolved compared to Books 5 & 7. I enjoyed the book more as it came to a close, but it wasn't enough to change my opinion. Books 1-4 are not available on Audible currently, so I haven't listened to those, but will continue to consider to Brian Haig books due to the quality of Books 5 & 7

LJ Ganser

This guy is very uncomfortable to listen to. What’s with all the heavy breathing? It’s pretty gross.

Great book, narration not so.

First off I started with book 1 with Joe Barrett narrating. With that said, I was accustomed to Joe and Sean's voice and demeanor. That set the stage for me. The previous book was narrated by Scott Brick and the shift was disappointing. I like Scott's style in other books but it's hard to get used to a new voice. Now with this book his voice is okay but doesn't fit with the series. The editing was horrible, and the miss pronunciation of words drives me crazy. Changing of chapters also drove me crazy. There were several where there were no gap between the last word and the next chapter announcement. I mean 0.00 seconds then there were times I thought the book stopped playing the gap was so long. I didn't time it but at least 10 seconds or longer. Very poor editing. Now about the book. This book was taken from actual events and added a very good fictional element. It lost the lawyer and courtroom we were used to from the first 2 books. This kept the suspense and twists going to the end with a possible carry over to a new book. Which I hope it does. I would prefer if they would go back to Joe for the narration. I also that the editing and production is better and never gets this bad again.

Again, another narrator

You just get used to the switch from Joe Barrett to Scott Brick. After one book narrated by Brick, the editors change narrators again. Ugh—
I’m sure Ganser is a great narrator but his accent, nasal tone, and his timing are off and distracting. I’m hoping it gets better. Will update if that happens.
I’m sure the story will be just as great as Haig’s prior books!

The US Army vs. its own soldiers.

Man in the Middle is Book 6 of the Sean Drummond series by Brian Haig. In the novel Drummond is caught in the middle of his commitment to the US Army where he is a leading lawyer and his belief in the soldiers who are fighting the war.

This book clearly deserves a five star rating, but the narration by LJ Ganser is mediocre and it detracts from the novel.

Very well written

This has been the second book in the Sean Drummond seriese. This book like the first was well written and very upbeat. I could hardly shut my ipod off and wanted to nothing but read it all the way threw. So if you want a new character to fallow then try out Sean Drummond and his fast and very funny attitude.
