This One's A Winner

Though, as I've said before and I'm sure I'll say again, it's literally impossible to go wrong with an Ambrose Ibsen / Joe Hempel combination. I can honestly say that I will listen to absolutely anything that comes from this duo!

'Malefic' is a fun follow up to book 1, 'The House of Long Shadows,' though I do think you should read book 1 first to get the full effect of this one. If you like super natural horror stories, then I really don't know why you wouldn't listen to this one. It's a pretty fabulous one!!!

Chilling

This book is spooky, scary and just plain creepy. It is exactly what I expected! The narrator did an excellent job as usual. I didn’t want it to end and when it did, I wanted more. I cannot wait for the next book in the series to come out. This author is the best horror writer in my opinion and the narrator never disappoints.

This house gets creepier and creepier

The house of long shadows was terrifying. The story takes place ten years later. The house and it’s inhabitants have grown even more powerful than before. After all, they have fresh spirits to feed off of. More of the houses history comes to light in this macabre tale. A family has now moved in and they have connections to the other side that the other inhabitants never had. So this help them or hasten their demise? What will become of this new family? Pretty good, could've been great

Overall, I feel like I enjoyed this book slightly less than the first in the series. I really like Joe Hempel but I'm not a fan of the halting, jerky way he chose to narrate/speak as the Marcel character (other characters he doesn't do this). In general, this storyline moved faster and fit more "story" in than the first book but I feel like there were several elements that could've been much more interesting (e.g. Constance) if they were explored in more depth.

Creepy!

Malefic is a creepy horror story featuring historical events. The story is a bit predictable but interesting. Overall a good ghost story! The narrator did a good job with providing unique voices for each character and appropriate tone inflections for each scene. I received a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

great creepy book, excellent narration

Ambrose is Favorite of mine. I have every book he has a out so far in my library. He's excellent at a creepy suspenseful read. This book did not disappoint. I don't know how he does it, but he takes a haunted house and somehow turns it into something not boring and creepy - I love it. I am looking forward to the next installment of the series.


Narration by Joe Hempel was awesome as always.

This was such a fantastic follow up to book 1! I loved the Dr. Marcel character and the tie in with his abilities as a medium. Between Ambrose Ibsen's vivid descriptions and Joe Hempel's superb narration, this is a great listening experience. A definite must have for any fan of ghost stories and the supernatural!

Can't wait for the next one!

Ambrose Ibsen (writer) and Joe Hempel (narrator) have done it again! Great ghost story. This is the sequel to House of Long Shadows. I am a fan of both Ibsen and Hempel. Ibsen is a great writer of ghost stories with a twist and Hempel always does a great job of delivering the stories.
