From Catriona Ward, the international bestselling author of The Last House on Needless Street comes Little Eve, a heart-pounding tale of faith and family, with a devastating twist.

Winner of the Shirley Jackson Award for Best Novel.

“A great day is upon us. He is coming. The world will be washed away.”

On the wind-battered isle of Altnaharra, off the wildest coast of Scotland, a clan prepares to bring about the end of the world and its imminent rebirth.

The Adder is coming and one of their number will inherit its powers. They all want the honor, but young Eve is willing to do anything for the distinction.

A reckoning beyond Eve’s imagination begins when Chief Inspector Black arrives to investigate a brutal murder and their sacred ceremony goes terribly wrong.

And soon all the secrets of Altnaharra will be uncovered.

“Ward’s skillful weaving of horror and mystery forms a dense, rich tapestry....The play of imagery is as engrossing as the plot twists, making this a rewarding outing from any angle. Horror fans won’t want to miss this.” —Publishers Weekly, STARRED review

"Little Eve is the sort of book that will both surprise and shock you...It’s delightful and disturbing by turns, and almost impossible to put down once you’ve started." —Paste

“Told in dual timelines, Little Eve is a deliciously spooky book, with prose like whispers on the wind. This one is for fans of cult stories (like me) and the gothic (also me), with dynamic characters and intense pseudo-religious psychology.” —Tor.com

I listened to this in one day. I couldn't stop. It will rip your heart out and keep you guessing at every turn of the page. There was nothing which pulled me out of the narrative and every loose end was tied up nicely and in a way that made sense. I suspected one of the ending twists from very early on, but I couldn't be sure and the twists and payoff were excellent. All of the characters were well-developed. This is the first time I've read this author and I will definitely be reading more!

Engrossing, enthralling, entrancing.

The story is interesting, albeit a little long winded. It's a literary gothic mystery with some unexpected twists at the end. Some parts are a bit boring and unnecessary long, reminiscent of her earlier work 'The Girl from Rawblood'. But overall, I enjoyed it and wanted to know where the story would go. The narrator was another one of those who talk so low you have to crank up your volume almost to the max to hear anything. Even with my earbuds in I sometimes had trouble understanding her.

Good story, not so good narrator

Great tale, great voice to tell it. Also the musical accompaniment at the end was the perfect touch.

Fantastic!

I tried but it's tedious worth little payoff. And I'm weird. I like weird things. ❤️d Needless Street. Kind of mad on this one.

Maybe but no

The atmosphere is palpable in this gothic tale of murder and betrayal and isolation. There are multiple twists and turns I did not see coming. I read the author's other book "The Last House on Needless Street" and though that one is more well known, I thought this one was better. The narrator's soft Scottish burr is lovely.

Excellent little gothic tale
