Resumen del Editor

Darrow returns as Pierce Brown’s New York Times bestselling Red Rising series continues in the thrilling sequel to Dark Age.

“The measure of a man is not the fear he sows in his enemies. It is the hope he gives his friends.”—Virginia au Augustus

The Reaper is a legend, more myth than man: the savior of worlds, the leader of the Rising, the breaker of chains.

But the Reaper is also Darrow, born of the red soil of Mars: a husband, a father, a friend.

The worlds once needed the Reaper. But now they need Darrow. Because after the dark age will come a new age: of light, of victory, of hope.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"Tim Gerard Reynolds returns with another installment in the rich sci-fi saga Red Rising.... Reynolds's expert performance provides the charisma necessary for many of the diplomatic scenes to work. Fans will rejoice at long-awaited reunions, all performed with care. The dialogue is well paced and delivered with the right amount of emotion. Fans of Red Rising will find Reynolds's delivery just as passionate as the writing. Overall, Reynolds ensures that this installment is another robust addition to the series." TGR slays!!!(book's good too)

Great book, 5 stars. Love the series. Want to stick up for TGR as I loved him doing the whole thing and was appauled by how many people complained about it as if TGR or PB would have had anything to do with it. That's 2023 for you though, slag off pixies

Just finished....woah

TGR sounds like he has a tissue in his nostrils. (only for the first couple of hours. Darrow's voice isn't changed, maybe TGR was sick for recording one day, lol)

Why no Lysander Voice Actor!?!? (I don't like Lysander but I love the character as a villain as well as the amazing job that last VA did.)

TGR is amazing in this as well, don't get me wrong....

Still.

With everything that happens, what an improvement Lysander's VA from Dark Age would have made this.

Honestly it would have made this near perfect. it would be all the more immersive.

Anyways

The story is great. The action is great.

Some loose ends tied up. Some undone. Some torn apart.

Hope, Fear, Love, Sacrifice, Betrayal, Pain, Redemption... and a Chosen Path.

Bonds broken, bonds formed.

The theater is the Rim Dominion. Almost nothing save for the beginning takes place in the Core. It's a wild ride through the outer reaches of civilization. Astroid Belts and Gas Giant Moons

It's everything you expect from the best of Pierce Brown.

If you've read Dark Age then of course this is a shoo in for your library.

I HATE LYSANDER.

I HATE LYSANDER.

I HATE LYSANDER.

three times a charm.

RE-REVIEW - I was wrong on my first review.

I need to submit a new review. I was very critical of the VO during the first few hours of the story. I even swore in my initial review that I wouldn't complete the book.

I was wrong. This book was incredible.

Yes, the VO is not without it's flaws. TGR is the best in the business in my opinion. The best. For whatever reason, whether it be by choice or something else, the first five or so hours of the VO are off. It's possible it was by choice. Maybe TGR felt Darrow needed to sound exhausted, sick, injured. But it was a hard listen at first. And at times it was hard to decipher between Darrow and Lysander. But about six hours in, TGR slid into all the characters perfectly. Proving why he is the best and affirming Pierce's decision to hire only him.

It's a brilliant book. As good as the first three. Truly.

Stick through the rocky beginning. It's worth it.

Do NOT bring back the other voice actors

Reynolds’s performance is outstanding. The previous books’ narrators were so atrocious it made these otherwise amazing books a slog to get through.

Give it a chance

Are there VAs… no, but it’s the same story teller. I’m still as gripped with this story today as I was the first time I read it. Per aspera ad astra my friends

Epic Story!!

TGR did great but I missed the other character voices. Made the epically good story challenging to follow because each
Character historically has had their own voice. Still, an entirely enjoyable listen!

Lovely

Heartbreaking and wonderful. Brown has really found a sweet spot with the POV and I love that they only have one voice actor. Really makes me love it more. Tim is incredible and deserves all awards. Just beautiful. Currently sobbing.

Pierce Brown Delivers Again!

Light Bringer reminds fans why we started reading Red Rising in the first place!! Book 6 hits on all cylinders; starting with a Wonderful story and continues with the strong & well developed characters the fans have become used too. This book is up there with Golden Son and Morning Star in my opinion! On a side note, TGR appears to struggle in his delivery of the narration in part 1. But he figures it out for the rest of the book. Cannot wait for the next one!

Great with a few problems(Spoilers)

As for the audio, It could have been better. I have no problem with TGR doing the whole book. Sometimes his accents to distinguish each character blends together, so you don't get the experience that two characters are talking to each. The audio wasn't as clear has it should be. I had experience the same problem on audile between book 2 and book 3 with the sound being of lower quality in book 3. I found the last two experiments with multiple narrators didn't work well. Instead of them working together as a production, like a graphic audio production, they were just a mish mash of narrators doing the same character with different accents. If you are going to have multiple speakers have them work with each other with assigned characters.

I wish that PB dropped the Lyria and Volga character arcs because they were some of the worst parts of book 5. Along with the clone plot which was thankfully absent besides it being mentioned in passing. It felt super forced to have them involved in the main story, especially Volga. She literally a nobody and to make her to be some leader of thousands makes no sense. I hate the character of Lysander. He has the same arc repeat this book as the last. He finds himself in a position of power mostly based on his name alone. He again kills off a main character, totally derails Darrow's plans at the last minute, and ends with him having the upper hand despite it not making sense. How can he claim to be the light in the darkness when he purposely starve said people for all to see? He totally undermined the whole point of the millions of moonies deaths yet the story pretends like it doesn't matter. His men fought to keep the people of the rim alive, with righteous fury, just to kill them in mass with no real reaction. It makes the story feel hallow when you treat breathing think people as robots just to move the story along. Especially, after one of the major story beats was how the Obsidians opinions of their leader's actions was his downfall.

Darrow is, as always, a great character. His interactions with battle, enemies, friends, and his self reflection is top notch. It's good to see a character experience true growth, especially over 6 books. I'm looking forward for what happens next.
