Love the history

I loved hearing about the history of the island and hate the troubles that native Hawaiians go through on a daily basis.

Hard read

The use of Hawaiian words made it difficult to understand. Story was okay but a lot of unnecessary words describing mundane things- too much filler.

Tackles difficult legal, economic, and cultural issues facing native Hawaiians and those displaced or alienated by circumstance with a sense of authenticity and ambience.

Factual history of Kauai!

Dove a little too deep into the Hawaiianna, but very informative. I loved the picture the words in the book painted.

When the author narrates... it's magic

I loved this book when I read the paperback. To hear Tori, a seasoned pro, narrate it took the experience to a whole new level. When the story comes from the author's heart and she has an artist's gift of interpretation, we see things in a fresh, powerful, beautiful way. A great listen!

An exquisite ride- homesickness for island life quenched and heart warmed with hope.

Author’s dynamic, authentic reading enhanced her powerfully crafted tale…the writing is beautiful and fluid. Felt twinges of homesickness for Maui, and the rise of Kauai memories, this story conjures and answers these sensibilities with keen details, language and tone. I was transported to the Garden Isle and glimpsed intimate lives of characters whose truths are daily realities facing the same unacceptable grand challenges. Recommending this to all, with a caution you won’t want to put it down.

Now I REALLY Miss Hawaii

This wonderful book takes me back to when I lived on Oahu and Maui for 3 years in the early 1970's. I love all the pidgin English, Hawaiian culture, food and love for family and the islands this book so authentically demonstrates. Wonderful story so hard to put down. Thank you for performing this book yourself, pronouncing all the local words correctly. I look forward to future books in this series.

Great story, great presentation, great setting

I loved this book. I own a condo on the island of Kauai and it was like taking a trip there. I could picture exactly where a lot of the story took place. The Hawaiian culture and history mixed in was a wonderful touch. The story was engaging, touching and exciting. I can’t wait for the next book in the series to come out. I hope it is set on Island!
