George Hunt can think of nothing he’d like more than to skip the high-society fundraiser where he has to guard a precocious seventeen-year-old girl and her judgmental therapist, but there’s no way out of it. If anything bad were to happen and he wasn’t there to stop it, he’d never forgive himself. So even though she’s grilling him about his dating life and the good doctor is psychoanalyzing him, he’s going to soldier on, because protecting his charges is what a knight does.
What he doesn’t count on is having to use both his training and his gun to make it through the night, or finding the last thing he ever expected… someone who actually sees him, not for the man he is, but for the man he could be with just a little bit of love.

Fun, classic Calmes fare that may have more of a payoff for readers of her newsletter where Hannah has grown up over the years and George is introduced and developed as he becomes a fixture in the Kage's lives. There’s also a nice callback for "Steamroller" as Kurt is reintroduced as a psychologist for the Kage extended family after a traumatic event where George had to save them.
Once Hannah loves you, she desires your happiness above all else (except if it means listening to you disagree with her), and in her 17yo wisdom thinks she knows best. When she decides that not only does George need her to find his soulmate but that he needs to talk to Kurt (who has been persistent in wanting to meet him), she forces his hand by inviting Kurt to a fundraiser.
Arguing with Hannah about butting into his love life right before having to meet a man he had no intention of talking to puts him in a bad mood. He's doubly aggravated by being psychoanalyzed by someone convinced that George's actions were more traumatizing than helpful and who has no clue about George, his job, or his military training.
Kurt and George of course butt heads, but soon they see more of one another’s humanity and find an unexpected spark, common ground, and understanding. I enjoyed seeing Kurt all grown up and learning some of the reasons he’s changed (aside from no longer being a 20yo dude-bro), and I'm always up for more George and glad to see him take center stage.
