Acerca de esta escucha

Working with the British Secret Service on an undercover mission, Maisie Dobbs is sent to Hitler's Germany in this thrilling tale of danger and intrigue - the 12th novel in Jacqueline Winspear's New York Times best-selling "series that seems to get better with each entry" (The Wall Street Journal).

It's early 1938, and Maisie Dobbs is back in England. On a fine yet chilly morning, as she walks toward Fitzroy Square - a place of many memories - she is intercepted by Brian Huntley and Robert MacFarlane of the Secret Service. The German government has agreed to release a British subject from prison, but only if he is handed over to a family member. Because the man's wife is bedridden and his daughter has been killed in an accident, the Secret Service wants Maisie - who bears a striking resemblance to the daughter - to retrieve the man from Dachau, on the outskirts of Munich.

The British government is not alone in its interest in Maisie's travel plans. Her nemesis - the man she holds responsible for her husband's death - has learned of her journey and is also desperate for her help.

Traveling into the heart of Nazi Germany, Maisie encounters unexpected dangers - and finds herself questioning whether it's time to return to the work she loved. But the Secret Service may have other ideas....

Reseñas de la Crítica

"It's a knack to keep a long-running series fresh, and narrator Orlagh Cassidy definitely plays a significant role with her portraits of Maisie and her familiar friends and colleagues.... Cassidy's warm narration, with its clear emotional connection to the characters and events, makes this another winner." (AudioFile)

Lo que los oyentes dicen sobre Journey to Munich

Con calificación alta para:

The Audiobook "journey To Munich" By Jacqueline Winspear Is Part Of The Maisie Dobbs Series And Follows The Protagonist On A Suspenseful Mission To Nazi Germany Before World War Ii. Many Reviewers Praised The Gripping Storyline, Engaging Mystery, And Compelling Characters Set Against The Backdrop Of Historical Events. However, Some Felt The Pacing Was Slow At Times, With Contrived Plot Points And Repetitive Narration. The Themes Of Espionage, Personal Growth, And The Looming Threat Of Nazi Germany Resonated With Readers. Overall, Fans Of The Series Enjoyed This Darker Installment, Though Some Felt It Lacked The Depth Of Earlier Books.

Narration

Although the narrator has a lovely voice and captures well most characters, she misses Maisy. Too frequently Maisy, who is a very strong, bright and independent woman, actually seems to simper. The narrator should give a closer listen to how she reads Maisy and try to make her voice and intonation match the character as written.

she's back

the last book in the series was so sad and dark, while this isn't cheery, Maisie has her focus back and is saving the world thoughtfully

Great Listening!

This is my first audio book in a very long time. It was wonderful! I've read the book and was excited to hear it in someone else's voice. When we read a book we have our own version of the voices of the characters. Ms Cassidy has a fine reading voice and I enjoyed listening. She gave verbal pictures to the city of Munich, the cold, the darker feeling of the time, the peacefulness of the gardens. Personally, I thought Pricilla would have had a voice like Essie Davis portraying Ms Phranie Fisher; more worldly and a bit more sad in the background. But otherwise this audio was wonderful. I got a lot of crocheting accomplished! Thank you for the opportunity to listen!

Perhaps my favorite Maisie Dobbs!

I thought the historical connection to Hitler’s rise to power and the different ways in which individuals and entire countries reacted was accurate and made the story especially interesting.

The narrator’s performance was excellent.

The best so far

The best Maisie Dobbs so far. Maybe it was her stepping out of replace as an investigator to a spy, or maybe it was bringing together lots of threads of the story so far. I don’t know, but I thought it was the best so far.

Back on Track

After the last book I wasn't sure where things were going with this series. It was so whiny and melancholy without as much of a usual story. Now we're back to our usual courageous, survivor Heroine. I'm so happy she's moved forward and that there is more of a mystery complimented by her private life.

A well crafted tale

Maisie finds herself in a challenging yet believable pre WWII situation which serves to bring closure in many ways to other events from her past. The narrator does an excellent job with a diversity of voices and accents making it easy to imagine the variety of people and settings. Maisie has matured and is even more likeable and nuanced.

A New Twist for Masie

Seeing Masie navigate pre WW Ii territory undercover in Germany was an exciting new twist in her abilities.
