Well researched, lyrically written

This historical novel is written in first person allowing the readers/audience to feel as though they are having afternoon tea with Jacqueline herself.

Boring until the last section

This could have been a book about anyone. The excessive descriptions (and the cigarettes...) were distractions. Not until the last part did I get any sense of Jackie.

Evocative, nostalgic and complex

I felt a connection to this book because of my own study abroad experience, but hearing about Jacqueline having done it 50 years earlier, and with all of the challenges of the time, I had an even deeper admiration for what that must have been like.

I like how it’s about growth and shifting perspectives and expectations, like all of the best study abroad stories are, but also about the political complications of the time period. I’ve studied/read plenty about WW2 but decidedly less so about the time in Europe immediately after. The author did amazing research to weave characters who were so believable, and who really grappled with the complexities at hand. Narrator was excellent, too!

Narration made this perfect

I loved this listening experience. The narrator did an impeccable job with her accents, voices and had such emotion in her voice. The story was interesting too, but the narration’s musicality made it utterly enjoyable. Thank you for your work!

Marvelous read

Ann Mah so effectively re-created daily student life in Paris, that it brought me to both smiles & tears more than once. I too was a student there, but in my 40s doing my Masters. Oh, I wish I had been held to an only-speak-French pledge! This beautiful groundwork woven together along Jacqueline Bouvier’s year in Paris is so fascinating. I stopped more than once recalling sorrowfully some of what lay ahead for her. I truly loved this novel. Merci beaucoup.

Loved the details, both fuctional and non. Eventually got over that narrator didn't sound much like Jackie.

Wonderful companion to my post-surgery walks

Ann Mah makes the scene come alive as do other notable authors, Adriana Trigiani and Pat Conroy. As I walked and listened …and walked and listened. I could imagine myself walking with Jaqueline through post-war Paris, though I never went to Paris until 1982.
And the story has sparked my interest in learning more about this great but real woman of American history.

I liked the historical perspective of post war France. Interesting how soviets sought to gain foothold and spread communism in Western Europe.

Moving and beautiful!

Surpassed all my expectations. I wasn’t keen on reading about someone I already knew about, but Jacqueline in Paris proved me wrong. I was transported and enjoyed every word. It was so beautiful that I slowly savored the end taking much longer than needed in an effort to make it last a little longer. The narration was superb!
