Resumen del Editor

Follow Father Tim and Cynthia on their journey to research his Kavanagh ancestry in the Irish countryside.

Vacation - the very word has been foreign to Episcopal priest Tim Kavanagh. Now retired from tending his flock in the village of Mitford, he is making good on a promise to show his wife, Cynthia, the charming land of his Irish ancestors. But after arriving at a Lough Arrow fishing lodge in the midst of a torrential downpour, the charm disappears.

They find their holiday upended by an intruder, a treasured painting is stolen from the lodge, and a family conflict dating back nearly a century turns even more bitter. As three generations struggle to find deliverance from the crucifying power of secrets, Tim and Cynthia stumble upon a faded journal that might just explain the crime - and offer a chance at redemption.

As Usual I am not disappointed

I own all of the Mitford and Father Tim series in audible form. I never tire of listening to them. There are few books I will read or listen to twice but I have listen to these books over and over. My favorite reader is John McDonough but I must say that Erik Singer was fantastic and did a wonderful job. I will look for his name as narrator again! I highly recommend this book.

I wanted the story to go on and on

The narration is brilliant and the characters come alive in an amazing way. I felt like I wanted to be part of this family. I was so sad when the story finally ended as I wanted it to just go on and on.

My favorite of all the Father Tim stories

I loved the setting and character development and mysteries solved. I have listened to this one more than once and recommend it highly.

Another lovely tale

Would you listen to In the Company of Others again? Why?

Yes, I probably will listen to this again. The story is entertaining and the performance is wonderful.

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favorite character in the story is Father Tim because after listening to all of this author's books, I feel like a know the man. Also, the author keeps him in character. She is always true to his history and he never reacts in a way that seems false. I like looking at the world through his eyes.

What about Erik Singer’s performance did you like?

The performance is rich and varied. He manages to perform the Irish accents in the book in a believable manner without going over the top. He artfully switches from voice to voice in an easy fashion. As he performs the story, you feel as if he is enjoying it along with you.

If you could rename In the Company of Others, what would you call it?

If I could rename the book, I think I'd have to call it, 'Working Vacation in Ireland' because this trip is anything but relaxing for Father Tim.

Any additional comments?

There is a story within the story that could stand as a book all on its own. In a way, I felt as if I were getting two stories for the price of one.

Not best Mitford novel

Too much of the story was the story within an old journal. Missed the usual bantering & conversations between Father Tim and Cynthia as well as others. Not the same depth in the relationships.

Father Tim's adventures in Ireland

Really enjoyed listening to the reader with Irish accent and expressions. Father Tim is a pleasant, devout man, and he really gets involved with the people in the inn.

I like it

Again, Father Tim sounds like a cowboy 😅. I'm not sure if it was the voice of the reader, or the storyline, but I felt like the characters were lacking and the women were too sissyish.

Not my favorite Mitford tale, but still a wonderful read!

This story was much darker than most of the Mitford stories, but it was still wonderful. The story takes place in Ireland, so I was missing all of the Mitford usuals, but a few of our favorites make an appearance and we get to make new friends on the way.

Loved everything about it!

I have read this book in print, but wanted to hear it so I would know correct pronunciation of the Irish words. The reader was perfect for this book. Love the story and the characters. I especially love the themes of grace, forgiveness and restoration.
