Resumen del Editor

Quantum theory is so shocking that Einstein could not bring himself to accept it. It is so important that it provides the fundamental underpinning of all modern sciences. Without it, we'd have no computers, no science of molecular biology, no understanding of DNA, no genetic engineering.

In Search of Schrodinger's Cat tells the complete story of quantum mechanics, a truth stranger than any fiction. John Gribbin takes us step by step into an even more bizarre and fascinating place, requiring only that we approach it with an open mind. He introduces the scientists who developed quantum theory. He investigates the atom, radiation, time travel, the birth of the universe, super conductors and life itself. And in a world full of its own delights, mysteries and surprises, he searches for Schrodinger's cat - a search for quantum reality - as he brings every listener to a clear understanding of the most important area of scientific study today - quantum physics.

In Search of Schrodinger's Cat is a fascinating and delightful introduction to the strange world of the quantum - an essential element in understanding today's world.

"Precise yet mysterious...as beautiful as a poem and as exciting as a novel." (The Sunday Times)

"Anyone who is not shocked by quantum theory has not understood it." (Niels Bohr)

Terrific

Enjoyed the history, the physics, the story of the cat and the physicists who contributed to quantum theory,

Classic Quantum intro/now w. Jude Law!(not really)

I read this freshman year of college, around when I knew I wa going to major in physics. I loved it then just as I love it now. In the 20 yrs since, I've seen it referenced many times by profs, working research physicists, and mass media. The complex concepts are explained effectively and with care towards not diluting the essential core physical principles down to nothing in the name of simplification and accessibility. the text in 2021 is definitely showing its age, more than 35 years I believe since it's initial publishing - it's particularly obvious when talking about the fantastic new technology -- Lasers!! (I think a new / updated edition would be very successful. Looking at you publisher.)

An obvious (and amusing) thing about the narration performance is that the reader sounds exactly, and I mean exactly, like Jude Law... after extended listening periods, I would lapse into delusions where I was suddenly listening to The Talented Mr. Ripley... Great novel/pretty good movie - and 100% irrelevant to quantum mechanics though...
Overall the narrator does quite a good job - but there are several famous physicist's names that get mispronounced. Leonard Euler is one name repeatedly flubbed. Otherwise a very solid audio set.

Bottom line: If anyone you know &/or care for is interested in physics - this book is worth the time. I haven't met anyone who has not benefited from at least some part of it.

Very Entertaining!

I have read and/or listened to 50+ books on the topic of quantum physics. This book was one of the more entertaining and captivating. Really well done, and an interesting take on the subject.

Mind bending

Appreciate the simplicity in the description of complex theories and ideas. I will buy the book for another time through as ideas are mind bending and require a closer look.
