, star, star, star, star, star. Well, the five stars provided just weren't enough. ~ grin ~

In a word: Brilliant. I've often wished for an opportunity to sit down and "discuss" with my favorite successful CEOs, to find out what really makes them tick. If you've ever thought so too, so that you could learn and benefit from the experience, habits and traits of the top chiefs, you're in for a rare treat. This book is a unique glimpse and valuable read.

The book had some good advice, but needed more in-depth analysis of what makes one CEO succeed versus another.

Could be better

maybe it's me, but the reading was dry and took away from some of the contents impact. I found myself wandering off in my own thoughts because of the monotonous presentation.

This book goes over a surface level view of CEO/Leadership behaviors quite well. It is good for dipping one's toes into the waters of how upper level management behaves and thinks. It validates other sources of how responsibility works at that level and reminds us that even the highest ranks are still human. Many of the subjects covered still hold water even in our hyper competitive global environment.

I have two minor points of criticism:
1) The book had some dated terminology and phrasing which may put off audiences who desire more contemporary approaches to narration (one example is how the narrative suggests the person is a family person who might have children.)
2) The book does not discuss how modern technology can be used to leverage means of networking, self-improvement, or preparing one's self to pursue a C-suite role.

The first point is minor because it is a mark of the times more than it is an attempt at malignant targeting/exclusion. The second point is also fairly forgiveable because such things are alluded to and ommitting them mitigates the obsolescence of the writing.

Overall, it's a good entey point into leadership discussion.

Dated, but relevant and excellent revalidation of CEO/leadership attributes.

Executive Charisma is a better effort by the author and I recommend it highly. I bought this title as I liked Executive Charisma so much - I was mostly disappointed with this work but there is some good stuff here - another contrast between the two works is that Executive Charisma was professionally narrated and this was not. Big difference, the pros are much easier on the ears.

Executive Charisma is better
