They are looking for sunshine. . . in a world without a sun.

When six human women are rescued from the Dreadmoor, Kizros’s only job is to check on their health and provide the rune cuffs that keep them safe. He didn’t imagine that by the afternoon, he’d be escorting one of those humans to his apothecary as his new assistant. But Aofe is the opposite of what he thought humans would be like. She’s a bloom in the dark, a colorful and curious creature, and from the moment he saw her brilliance, Kizros was determined not to scare away his new colleague. Aofe has spent her life being told what she can’t do because of her crutches, but working for Kizros is everything she’s ever wanted. A quiet shop, a job she’s qualified for that doesn’t require being on her feet, and a handsome green demon with glasses to keep her company. Kizros is sweet, charming, and awkward, and though he doesn’t quite understand her disability, he makes the effort to learn. Their pull is undeniable, but their past holds them back. He’s always been too much. She’s always been an inconvenience. Can they learn to trust the sunshine in each other and heal from their pasts together?

For fans of fantasy monster romance, cozier fantasy, and queer stories, join Laura Winter and AK Caggiano in the Falling for Demons series of interconnected standalones, set in the same fantasy world. Follow six humans and their budding romances with the demons they once feared in a cozy, spicy setting.

Green skinned, glasses wearing, socially awkward Kizros is the bestest, most marshmallowy cinnamon roll demon and he supports bum-legged, blue haired, nose pierced Aofe adorably. This series aims to show there’s monster romantasy wish fulfillment for every kind of FMC and, by that measure, this succeeds. However, I wish there was more time creating deeper stories or describing the world. It’s apparently a land of eternal night, and there are fire breathing pets and differently colored/shaped demons, but just when something interesting is mentioned, the story barrels past it to focus in the sugary puppies and kittens romance.

Perhaps because this is all about feelings over physical appearances, the sex scenes didn’t cook. I felt the love; I didn’t feel the attraction. I enjoyed these narrators better than book 1’s pair. Ultimately, this was a decent matinee listen.

Differently abled romance is the point
