I’d recommend for all parents with toddlers to preteens

I loved that the author cites there sources. He went on to give a story related to the chapters main points which really collected it all nicely. Some alarming stats and it was 50/50 on feeling ready to hold onto my kid and feeling hopeless that too much damage has been done and the road ahead will be arduous.

I will say, I bought this book a while ago and I just finished today. The narrator was kind of boring... maybe it’s my adhd, I just had a very difficult time listening to this for more than 30 min at a time.

An Important Book

The way in which the book transcends our modern zeitgeist and gets back to our roots, incorporates some of the best modern wisdom and science, and does so without having an outdated reactionary bent is very refreshing. I derived a great deal of value from this book and would recommend it to just about anyone, but especially to parents and caregivers of children.

Amazing book very informative for how to literally and figuratively hold on to our children

Perfect reinforcement to the sacrifices my family is making

I enjoyed the book and the readers voice was very steady. As a mom of five on the fence of homeschooling it was reinforcing my stance. In addition as a family who makes choices counter our peers I enjoy hearing why it’s vital to put in the extra work now so later in life our kids are well balance emotionally.

A must listen!

Such a vital topic in today’s world. I don’t have kids but i serve as a mentor and this book drives home the importance of adults who show up in any child’s life. A message we all need to hear.

Whether you're a parent, grandparent, caregiver, or even if you're none of these things, this book provides very interesting insights into the societal norms of today versus the natural state of growth humans are meant to be brought up in. I enjoyed this book very much.

Important attachment-based perspective

This book changed my entire perspective on parenting. I have been a student of attachment-based parenting and psychology for some time now, and this book brought so many concepts together into a coherent worldview.

Incredible book for parents

As a first time mom, this book spoke to me in so many ways..spiritually. I’ve learned that I lean towards attachment parenting and this book nurtures and reassures me that what I’m intuitively doing is okay! This book cuts through ALL the noise of modern society, other moms, and every toy, class, way, and “thing” that pushes convenience and “a moment of peace” from our children and instead reassures that the sacrifice of effort and time spent WITH them, holding them longer is in fact nurturing the bond that is required to keep them closer for the rest of our/their lifetime. Not easy by all means but it definitely seems worth it. Absolutely love Dr. Gabor Maté and really appreciate his work. Couldn’t recommend this book more to every single parent. Having my husband read this next!
