This is an awesome book written over 130+ years ago. I am thankful that John Taffin has recommended this book to his readers. I have the Kindle and the Audible of this editions. An excellent read (or listen)🇺🇸😇👍🏼👏🏼🙏🏼

This book gives a great history of some truly great Americans who were not only brave but carved out what our great country is today.

A Presidental Fireside Chat

The title of this book accurately reflects its content, as well as its approach.

Rather than the typical practice of presenting "history" as a collection of dates and events, this book provides interesting "tales" about real heroes. It presents the contribution of these men, the challenges they endured, and the impact of their lives and character on American history.

"Hero Tales" is an interesting and memorable perspective. I learned more about our history from this one book, than I had ever retained from my years of formal education. It is remarkable that this literary contribution was given to us by one of our Presidents, who himself made history.

My only criticism is with the electronic format, which is independent of the book itself. Within Audible Player, the digital book did not provide bookmarks for the chapters. In iTunes, only 5 numbered "Chapters" are marked (about every 4-5 book chapters), with no titles. Also, the Chapter number and title are announced only AFTER the poem or other quote that begins each Chapter. Although I was able to create bookmarks on my Treo, the list of 20 chapters became longer than the interface could adequately handle. Plus, the bookmarks were not synchronized with the desktop, so the effort was lost. The usability (and accessibility) of this fairly lengthy book would be improved by the addition of Chapter structure.

Interesting book

Incredible tales about incredible Americans by an incredible author. Gives you a good idea of the people who Teddy Roosevelt admired.

It's nice to hear the true stories of men who gave all for what they thought was right.

Inspiration

For me, it was very interesting to hear what inspired the authors who turned out to be very inspiring people themselves.

I enjoyed the examples and think it is good to learn from others. Some of the “Heros” in the story we not the best of people, however that does not mean that we can’t learn and even the inspired by people who are not always the best people.

Great book of stories and history

I like books that tell tails untold. There were stories I haven’t heard of in the history of America. Or I had heard them told as a legend of fable. Great listen if your into history

Intimate view of American Heroes

A book that left me thinking about my own attitudes & prejudices. Enjoyed every word. Reminded me why I m proud to be American, & I will act more responsibly toward my fellow citizens. I wish this were required reading for many current leaders. Now where is my next book about the authors? I will recommend to mt book club.
