Resumen del Editor

This book addresses a pivotal and overlooked moment in American history. In 1815, Britain's crack troops, fresh from victories against Napoleon, were stunningly defeated near New Orleans by a ragtag army of citizen soldiers under the fledgling commander Andrew Jackson, whom they dubbed "Old Hickory." It was this battle that first defined the United States as a military power to be reckoned with and an independent democracy here to stay.

The Battle of New Orleans sets its scenes with an almost unbelievably colorful cast of characters - a happenstance coalition of militia-men, regulars, untrained frontiersmen, free blacks, Indians, townspeople, and of course, Jackson himself. His glorious, improbable victory will catapult a once-poor, uneducated orphan boy into the White House and forge the beginning of a true nation.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"Todd provides a spirited, unvoiced presentation. He reads in a clear, distinct voice that is easy to follow. The dramatic text needs no further embellishment." ( KLIATT)
"Todd skillfully handles this well-documented history of the final battles of the War of 1812." ( Booklist)

One of the best Audible experiences I’ve ever had!

This was an absolutely riveting book. I listened to it almost all on one day. It is an unlikely binge listen per the title, but it is so nonetheless!

Good pace, character development, and narration

This was an enjoyable history of the Battle. Remini provides just enough character development to help with the understanding of the major players, and then moves on the relate the story of the battle. He describes the positions and movements with enough detail to make it enjoyable as an audio book. I was pleased with the narration. And now I know why several of my ancestors of the early-to-mid-1800s were named after Andrew Jackson!

A Good Read for anyone living in New Orleans

One of my favorite books. As someone who moved from rural North Louisiana to “The Big Easy” this book helps moving to probably the most culturally unique city put in perspective. New Orleans has always had issues with natural disasters and crimes. Yet by the grace of God, whether folks realize it or not, the people of New Orleans are resilient. People of every creed and color here have the potential to overcome the odds. Laissez les bons temps rouler!

Pronunciation please!

The narratot’s pronunciation of New Orleans names and places was abysmal. His pronunciation of Lake Borgne was especially especially offensive. It is pronounced Lake BORN not bornya

History

The information in this book was interesting even though the reader sounded like a soulless robot spewing facts as quickly and heartlessly as possible.

Details galore!

This is not an overly objective retelling of this significant battle in our nation’s history, however it contains more details than you’ll find in most books on the subject. I started rolling my eyes towards the end due to the absurd amount of hero worship for Gen. Andrew Jackson contained in this book. As long as you’re willing to sit through all of that, it’s an easy listen for those interested in the subject.

Repetitive

Interesting recount of an important, even major battle. The author's points were made over and over.

The narrator made numerous grammatical errors and mis pronunciations.
