From New York Times bestselling and Hugo Award-winning author T. Kingfisher comes Hemlock & Silver, a dark reimagining of “Snow White” steeped in poison, intrigue, and treason of the most magical kind

Healer Anja regularly drinks poison.

Not to die, but to save—seeking cures for those everyone else has given up on.

But a summons from the King interrupts her quiet, herb-obsessed life. His daughter, Snow, is dying, and he hopes Anja’s unorthodox methods can save her.

Aided by a taciturn guard, a narcissistic cat, and a passion for the scientific method, Anja rushes to treat Snow, but nothing seems to work. That is, until she finds a secret world, hidden inside a magic mirror. This dark realm may hold the key to what is making Snow sick.

Or it might be the thing that kills them all.

"Pickens adjusts her approach appropriately for several characters...[Anja's] enthusiasm and wonder are delightfully narrated, and so too is her horror as she learns the truth about the alternate realm and its creatures." — AudioFile

Reseñas de la Crítica

Praise for Hemlock & Silver:

"A new favorite! Hemlock & Silver achieves the extraordinary feat of feeling both classic and unique. Masterful storytelling with an unforgettable heroine, creepy magic, and a fantastic cat! I almost wish I hadn't read it so I could read it again for the first time!"—Sarah Beth Durst, New York Times bestselling author of The Spellshop

"Eerie and aching, I've loved everything that Kingfisher has written but this might be my favorite."—Cassandra Khaw, USA Today bestselling author of Nothing But Blackened Teeth

"A darkly enchanting tale of poison and power. Beautifully crafted and utterly spellbinding."—Holly Black, New York Times bestselling author of Book of Night

"Hemlock & Silver is T. Kingfisher at her best—clever, romantic, and a hell of a good time."—Hannah Whitten, New York Times bestselling author of For the Wolf

"This is T. Kingfisher at her finest. Continuing in her tradition of horror-tinged, fairytale-inspired storytelling, Kingfisher pairs a wonderfully offbeat fantasy narrative with her signature wit, which compares favourably with the likes of Terry Pratchett. It's impossible not to root for our clever, unapologetically bumbling protagonist, Healer Anja. Hemlock & Silver is as delightful as it is impressive."—Heather Fawcett, New York Times bestselling author of Emily Wilde's Encyclopedia of Fairies

"Utterly delightful… Kingfisher wows."—Publishers Weekly, STARRED REVIEW

Praise for the works of T. Kingfisher:

"Full of melancholy charm. . . . it’s such a pleasure to read."—The New York Times

"T. Kingfisher’s delicate, bittersweet style of fantasy is like nothing else on shelves at the moment. . . . a perfect blend of sharp-edged humor and horror-tinged heart."—Paste

"Kingfisher never fails to dazzle."—Peter S. Beagle, Hugo, Nebula, and Locus Award-winning author of The Last Unicorn

"Kingfisher’s fairyland is full of teeth, wonder and horror; what’s dark is very dark, but what’s good will give you warmth. By the last page, my heart was mended.”—NPR

"A wonderful entwining of darkness & whimsy."—Travis Baldree, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Legends & Lattes

"Refreshing. . . . a true comfort read, in which gentleness endures despite outrageous cruelty.”—The Washington Post

"Absolutely delightful and full of charm and truth."—Naomi Novik, New York Times bestselling author of A Deadly Education and Uprooted

“Haunting and unusual." —Tamora Pierce, New York Times bestselling author of the Tortall series

If you like T.Kingfisher's work you will love this book.
I loved the story and the characters.
As usual Ursula did a wonderful job retelling a fairytale we all know in a brilliantly cripy way.
Also great job by the narrator Jennifer Pickens.

T.Kingfisher did it again ♥️

My 1st book about Snow White, which this book is based on, was beautifully illustrated by Trina Schart Hyman. It was bound in a deep black cloth, and I still have the copy my mother gave me when I was just 4 years old.

It was easy to picture some of those classic illustrations as I listened along to this well written addition to the author’s growing collection of remixed fairytales that we all either grew up reading, or watching as animations.

So any repurposed take to their story is a an enjoyable and twisted ride down a well known path.

This one in particular will make you feel a little wiggly about any older mirrors you might have in your house, especially if you happen to cross over more than one of them with your own reflection.

On the surface, it’s Reflective but it goes much deeper when you look closer at it.

I love Kingfisher. She never disappoints and this book does not either. I love that the FMC was 35 and tall with a "barrel belly." She's so real and relatable, especially being a little awkward and inquisitive. And the love interest is an appropriate age, too! This book was smart and funny, little creepy, and just super well rounded as far as I'm concerned. The cross between Snow White and Through the Looking Glass was interesting and the Mirror Geld kind of reminds me of the hands from Labyrinth and that was very cool. I finished this in two days and just giggled and gasped all the way through. The narrator was so good, too. Her voice didn't take you out of the story with weird pronunciations or anything.

Obsessed. I am obsessed.

I apparently didn't read the description very closely so I didn't realize I was reading a fairy tale at first. Once I put those pieces together I was debating stopping reading but I'm quite glad I didn't. The book is completely worth the read despite the references to another story you might know. And the narrator is spectacular.

Instantly an interesting read
