Resumen del Editor

The resort town of Heaven's Peak is home to beautiful landscapes and terrifying secrets.

After the tragic death of his mother, teenage photographer Kevin Miller moves to a new town with his alcoholic father and eight-year-old sister in the hope of bringing the family together and starting over. However, everything changes when Kevin witnesses his sister being kidnapped by a bizarre creature. The police are skeptical of his story, so he decides to unveil the mysteries surrounding the town on his own.

On the other side of the investigation, FBI agent Norman James will do anything to solve the baffling case, except believe a traumatized teenager's nonsense.

Meanwhile, newscasts predict a blizzard approaching in the next couple of days, as people in the town begin to behave strangely.

Will they be able to find the little girl before Heaven's Peak is consumed by darkness?

Heaven's Peak is the first full-length horror-thriller novel from author Miguel Estrada. If you like suspense, mystery, and dread, prepare for a ride you won't forget.

Good listen

I absolutely loved the cover of this book and the description and I could not wait to listen to it. All in all it is a very good book and a unique storyline but at times it can be confusing. I did not think the narrator was very good, but he did not ruin the story. He could have taken a little more time and put a little more performance behind it instead of just reading it. I still think it is well worth the listen and you won’t be disappointed. I received this book at no charge in my review is my own.

Heaven's Peak

For some reason, the book reminded me a lot of C.H.U.D. Some of the aspects of the setting, the strange creatures, and the B grade dialogue just reminded me of those mass produced 80's B movies. Turns out that is my thing, so I actually enjoyed the story. There are parts where it definitely got a bit muddy and I had a hard time keeping track of who was who and what was going on. I kept thinking people were someone else and was wondering why they were doing things that seemed out of character for them. Some of that had to do with that it was difficult to discern ages of people as they seemed to jump around a bit in the role they played in the story.

The characters were interesting and I liked the strange creatures. My only major issue is that their dialogue often didn’t match who they were. Again, it kinda had the B movie vibe with that and while I cringed from time to time, especially coming from the FBI agents, it didn’t bother me as much as it would someone who isn’t a B movie hound. I think the overall story was the main consideration versus character development and dialogue. None of the characters really stood out to me either. I liked Kevin the most, he played the typical young kid who plays the adult in the family taking care of his younger sibling since their father is an alcoholic. It was the lack of connecting with the characters which allowed me to get them confused.

As for the plot, yes it is a bit confusing from time to time, yes there are some unanswered questions. However, this is a horror story with a supernatural presence. I expect that there is to be some hokeyness that requires a certain level of turn off the brain and just enjoy. This reminded me a few different older horror movies so it did bring back some of that nostalgia. The overall story that was being told I enjoyed.

I think Ryan Gregory LaJoie did a decent job. I really liked his main narration voice. Given the dialogue, I though that some of the cadence of the characters wasn’t fit for what they were saying. The characters with authority didn't sound like they were coming from a place of authority, unless you imagine them as the Captain in 80's police movies who are always yelling with veins popping out. It did kinda added to the overall B feel, but I do think that the different character voices were good and liked the different tones he used.

Started off great but lost me a little...

Heaven's Peak by Miguel Estrada okay. It's the story of Heaven's Peak and the children that go missing every so often...Sophia's sister a few years back and her new classmate Kevin's little sister just recently. Problem is, nobody believes Kevin when he tells them what he saw. So the two of them take it upon themselves to find out exactly what is going on in Heaven's Peak. FBI Agent James is also trying to figure out exactly what is happening...

It started off great and the cover and summary is what drew me in initially. Unfortunately, after listening for a bit, the story started to lose me some. I was happy to be able to picture the hooded creatures from the cover of the story, but some of the characters, especially the agents and officers, didn't feel real. Granted the creatures aren't real, but you know what I mean. I wish the characters would have been fleshed out a bit more, especially Kevin, the main character, though with an imagination, this is still a unique, interesting story.

The narration, as performed by Ryan Gregory LaJoie, was okay, but there was a bit that could have been improved upon. First off, there were quite a few repeated areas in the audiobook, as though when editing multiple takes together it wasn't quite as carefully listened to. Mr. LaJoie did a decent job narrating this story, though his performance felt a little flat. It's definitely perfectly fine to listen to, though the narration was a tad dramatic and I wasn't in love with some of the character voices. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher for an honest review.

Great Read

Heaven's Peak was a good read by Miguel Estrada. Kevin Miller moved to a new town with his alcoholic father and eight year old sister after the tragic death of his mother. Kevin witnesses his sister's kidnapping by a scary creature. The police don't believe him so he decides to investigate on his own. FBI agent Norman James will do anything to solve the case, except believing Kevin's "nonsense". A blizzard is coming at the same time the people in town start behaving strangely. I enjoyed reading this book and cant wait to read more by the author.

not creepy till the end

Not creepy till the end but then it gets moving and goes really quick. Not a bad book just wish there was a bit more action.

Narrator...

Yikes! Sounds like he's in his bathroom - no idea what the story is about because I couldn't get passed the first 20 minutes. His style of narration isn't for me.. I exchanged it. Sorry...

Works as an horror story

This story is an horror thriller that you end up not knowing if it's a bit of a supernatural or natural disease let loose.
The ending is a bit surprising as we follow 2 main characters (a boy living in the town and an FBI agent investigating the strange disappearances) and they don't get both to live in the end.
I miss a bit of the open ending that usual characterizes these type of stories.
As for the narration, it's ok, but doesn't add that much to the story, despise the narrator good efforts.

Don't listen to haters

I was given a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have left a voluntary review:

Another prime example of why you can't always trust the review, especially when there isn't many of them. I really enjoyed listening to this book. I didn't find it at all confusing as the other reviews said. The narrators girl voice wasn't great (his normal/ guy voice is perfect) but other than that...it was a great book!
