Really good!

Great book. Really good narrator. All around fun listen. Lots of little survivalist gems scattered throughout. For example, you learn how to build a fallout shelter, radiation detector, and how to eat game post-fallout. All of that woven into the story in away that doesn't get "text-booky".

Post WWIII DRAMA, Survive or Die

Any additional comments?

Jeff Brackett's Half Past Midnight, Narrated by Corey Snow is a great book. It keeped me rivited to my speakers throughout the entire story.

The story is in the same genre as Televisions "Revolution" except this book is much better; sticking to a single storyline and this story is complete.

The story starts quickly, and the characters are established with the depth needed according to the story line and then grow as the story moves forward.

In short, World War III starts and Leeland Dawsett is a survivalist that has prepared his family for the possibility of war. When he sees a second "sun" in the sky outside Houston he knows he only has a little time to move his family outside the target rich area of Houston, Texas.

As Leeland and his family move North to his Mother-in-laws home the outlaws are already out in force. This story moves from one man's effort to protect his family and moves forward to him becoming part of a community that is trying to survive and rebuild after Nuclear bombs and EMP blasts have left all modern electronics useless.

Nothing is boring in this story as it keeps you on the edge of your seat. The author's use of humor is balanced with the bloody violence of war.  I was presently suprised at every aspect of this story. Truely gripping and realistic in my limited knowledge of the subject matter.

I highly recommend this audiobook .

A killer thriller!

What did you love best about Half Past Midnight?

Wow, I loved all the thrills & excitement. There is so much to think about in this book and it really could happen.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Half Past Midnight?

When Leeland went over to his dad in front of the nuke cloud & realized his dad died!

Which scene was your favorite?

I liked a lot of scenes! I loved how the town pulled together & accepted Leeland & his family. Then had Leeland teaching everyone how to defend themselves.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It really gave me so much to think about. This really could happen any day & any where! What would we do if it did happen?

Any additional comments?

The author, Jeff Brackett had a huge job writing this book. He did a great job. So many things can happen in a nuclear war. The narrator, Corey Snow did a great job reading it too. I found him easy to follow in the story & he did a great job with all the voices. I truly enjoyed this story & intend to listen to it again!

So Predicable it isn't funny or fun

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Predicable so in that sense it wasn't entertaining.

Would you ever listen to anything by Jeff Brackett again?

No

Which scene was your favorite?

The opening scene was good.

Could you see Half Past Midnight being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

No

Any additional comments?

The main character needs an overhaul. Larry would have been his first casualty, but for some reason the author decided to leave Larry until the last. So, what is so original about that? Does that mean the author can't create another bad guy? Is a bad guy even needed? The situation was enough.

Quite happy…

As a gloom and doom kind of guy with thoughts of bugging out of this society anyways…disaster or not. I enjoyed listening along to this tale and feel that the author did well with guiding the mind through a quick escape and aftermath of disaster. I’m a fan of apocalyptic /dystopian fiction, so I wasn’t surprised that I liked the storyline. Cheers to the author.

Loved Corey Snow's voice!

This story was pretty great. I enjoyed it immensely. even better was the fact that Corey Snow sounds like Harrison Ford when he was younger. Excellent.

Start with Nukes and go from there!

Any additional comments?

I was a little thrown off at the beginning of Half Past Midnight, mostly because I had no real foundation of who Leeland was, when or where I was, before the nukes went off. Still, I found I didn't mind. Brackett so grabbed me with the threat of nuclear war that I was more concerned about general survival than who I was dealing with. By the time things settled, that imbalance had been righted by Leeland's plans and abilities, and I found myself safe with him and his family.

It actually startled me a little that the bulk of this book was just about surviving in general. For much of the book, the environment and the situation was the main antagonist, and sometimes, that sort of foe makes me dislike a book. While I did feel a little afloat, I did find myself engrossed in how Lee and the people of Rejas rebuilt their lives.

Of course, that was when the proverbial dung hit the fan and the fairly minor skirmish at the beginning of the book turned full circle to ramp up the action, tension, and body count. Brackett does an amazing job gathering little threads of plot, details that seem trivial, to bring them into the end. It was extremely satisfying, to say the least.

Overall enjoyable

Not a terribly original story but it passes the time and held my interest to the end.

Excellent book about Surviving an Apocalypse

Would you consider the audio edition of Half Past Midnight to be better than the print version?

The audio version of this book was fantastic! It was very realistic. I will listen to this again. Very thought-provoking.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Half Past Midnight?

I liked this book from the very beginning. I was hooked right away. When Leeland hears what is happening he wastes no time in kicking his survival skills into high gear; giving his whole family a task to do in order to prepare for immediate evacuation from their home. This was clear throughout the whole story where he proves his leadership skills even when he has to let others do things their way.

Have you listened to any of Corey Snow’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No I haven't but I will. He is a very gifted narrator. Corey Snow is a natural. I will look for other books narrated by him.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

This book SHOULD be a film. 'Surviving a Midnight Apocolypse'.

Any additional comments?

I love how the author Jeff Brackett leads in each chapter with a Nastradamus Quatrain. It makes this book cohesive and reminds us that D-day is possible. It brings a certain reality to this book. A wake up call. What WOULD you do? How WOULD you survive? It was a great listen!I received the audiobook free of charge in exchange for an unbiased review.

Engaging Story. Wonderful Characters.

I have listen to or read several of Jeff Brackett's books. He is one of favorite authors. I am not a huge fan of dystopian novels, but, for Half Past Midnight, I will make an exception. You will not be disappointed. I find myself parked in front of my home not wanted to stop the story.
