Gyllene buddha är den första delen i serien Oregonarkiven där vi får möta Cusslers nye actionhjälte Juan Cabrillo - fartyget "Oregons" mycket karismatiske kapten.
Bara en man av Cabrillos kaliber kan förvandla ett gammalt lastfartyg till en flytande spioncentral utrustad med högteknologiska avlyssningsapparater och avancerade vapensystem - och bara han klarar de farliga uppdrag som "Oregons" besättning tar sig an.
Nu har de fått i uppdrag av CIA att sätta punkt för den kinesiska ockupationen av Tibet och återge landet till Dalai Lama. Ett till synes omöjligt uppdrag, men Cabrillos trumfkort är den flera hundra år gamla buddhastaty av massivt guld som kommer att få en avgörande roll i det politiska spelet kring bergslandet.
Först måste han dock hitta statyn. Sedan återstår för Cabrillo och hans besättning att överlista två av världens mäktigaste länder, för det ligger i både Rysslands och Kinas intresse att de misslyckas med uppdraget...
