Resumen del Editor

Rooted in the observation that massive transitions in the church happen about every 500 years, Phyllis Tickle shows readers that we live in such a time right now.

She compares the Great Emergence to other "Greats" in the history of Christianity, including the Great Transformation (when God walked among us), the time of Gregory the Great, the Great Schism, and the Great Reformation.

Combining history, a look at the causes of social upheaval, and current events, The Great Emergence shows readers what the Great Emergence in church and culture is, how it came to be, and where it is going. Anyone who is interested in the future of the church in America, no matter what their personal affiliation, will find this book a fascinating exploration.

Phyllis Tickle rocks

A great read regarding what's next in North American Christianity based on a macro view of historical social and technological trends. It really hit the spot for me, I've heard a lot of over time and I wasn't disappointed.

Great over view of Church History

Wish I had a review like this 40 yrs ago. It would have helped usher in my developing view of the world and my place in it.

Loved the book, can"t stand the narrator

Narrator has an annoying habit of sounding like she is mocking what she is presenting. Loved the content but really got tired of feeling like she feels above all of this

Hard-hitting rationale for all Christians

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this audio book for any Christian who wonders about the struggle with faith. Seem simple enough to accept the promise for salvation, but author Phyllis Tickle slaps us with the realization that our faith has changed over time.

What did you like best about this story?

I love the parallel analysis of society vs faith; wait, did she say that faith is a social construct? What??

Which character – as performed by Pam Ward – was your favorite?

Ms Ward does a decent job of reading the book in a consistent way, but occasional voice inflections seemed a tad mocking. Maybe it's just me, but I sensed incredulity laced into the author's revelation that indeed society affects how we feel about the church.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

There were a few "oh-my-God" moments - revelations about the confluence of society and church, technology and faith. I'll be okay with some therapy.

Any additional comments?

A highly recommended read for any Christian who strives for a clearer understanding of our place in society. A whole lot of us came to get this book after our pastor read it.

highly informative & well told

unexciting reader, but she spoke complex sentences with just the right emphasis to make them easy to understand

Great book but poor narrator

Loved the content of this book , but I was constantly annoyed by the narrator’s attempt to perform. While this may be appropriate for a novel, in this case, it was not. It drew attention away from the important content.
