Resumen del Editor

On any given night, more than half a million Americans and Canadians find themselves sleeping on the streets, in shelters, cars, and other places not meant for human habitation.

Yet as this crisis continues to grow, it remains one of the least talked about—especially in churches. Even where compassion and empathy exist, the complexities around homelessness can make us feel stuck, overwhelmed, or numb to the existence of unhoused people in our cities and neighborhoods.

Reporting back from his work in homeless services, minister and advocate Kevin Nye introduces listeners to the Christ he’s met in tents, shelters, and drop-in centers. He demystifies homelessness by journeying into complex issues like affordable housing, mental illness, addiction, and more, while reimagining our theological approach to these matters and educating us on how they intersect with homelessness.

This thorough and intimate book shows us that from the margins, Jesus has something to teach us all about grace—something that could change the landscape of homelessness entirely if we’re ready to hear it.

What an deeply impactful book

Thank you Kevin for your heart for the unhoused and the ministry you live out. This book taught me so much and helped me confront biases that I hadn’t thought through.

A poignant Christian message for our times

I loved the author's integrity in approaching a heated issue even among Christians and how we ought to deal with the unhoused population in our midst. Nye writes of wanting to live out the Scriptures but finding that not to be a traditional ordination path to pastoring within the church walls, but taking a prophetic role of ministering to the community and living among the unhoused street population. He challenges traditional misinterpretations of Scripture passages that Christians use as platitudes and disengaged attitudes when helping the needy.

All in all, a great book that I am already recommending to friends.

excellent, informative, and astute

loved reading this work from someone who works and cared deeply about services for unhoused people, and demands that we in the US, and especially Christians in the US, fight that injustice with the resources we have. highly recommend for Christian social justice and church book clubs

Informative and compassionate. Must read!

The author’s passion for serving the unhoused community is a model all Christians should understand. I live in California and I lived in Los Angeles for 15 years, Like the author, I was introduced to skid row when I took a wrong turn heading to my office adjacent to Pershing Square once. Aldo like the author, they experience left an impression on me that I will never forget. I’ve since supported the local rescue missions but I’ve never known how else to help than by giving money or volunteering. This book offers practical advice that is very helpful for those of us who want to help but are not sure how.

Kevin Nye describes the root causes of the problem and offers a perspective and an understanding of a complex issue and ways it can be fixed. These days in California, politicians and residents can longer pretend this problem doesn’t exist. It is everywhere and something must be done. Kevin has an insight and ideas that many people should consider. Christians and the church can play a powerful role as well. There is much to be done.

Overall, this is a very well written book, narrated by the author, and is a must read for every Jesus follower. Highly recommended! Kevin had a podcast this past year as well, which I’ve loved and I hope can continue.

Compelling, heartwarming and needed

I needed to hear these words so much. Homelessness being a part of what has felt like an overwhelming and frustrating problem in my own city, I feel a new hope and desire to see unhoused folks as Jesus sees them and to love them the way He does. Thank you for this book Kevin.
